Names on Fish Extender

I didn't put any names at all on our Fish Extender, or those I've made for friends.

All of the extenders I've made are for adults (mostly) couples so I designed pockets with their favorite character. I'm a quilter so "quilted" the pockets (they really aren't quilted but look a bit like it) with small pieces of fabric some plain and some with favorite characters "fussy cut" from larger pieces.

I think because they were all for adults it didn't matter what gift was in which pocket things were put in.

I have noticed from this and other threads, how many people are very jumpy about other people knowing their full names. What do they think will happen? Am I just being naive or is it because I am British and we maybe have different ideas about things? I just don't understand why people are reluctant for others to know their names

I agree I don't get it at all, I am a very over over protective mother and having my DDs name shown doesnt bother me for a second, I never leave my child's side, I do not use kids clubs even if I did no one can check her out without the code, if a stranger on a ship of 4000 people happened to walk by my door at the exact same time we were standing there to get a glimpse of my DD then they'd have to stalk us for the rest of the day to wait for a moment to try anything (once again she'll never be alone), I do believe that yes something bad can happen no one is immune to the awful things out there I just don't think my FE will have anything to do with it. I will hold my DD hand everywhere we go, I will once again drill the stranger talk into her (hoping to never need it)

I do understand the kids at school not showing their names on back packs they are visible for strangers and children at schools are not being directly watched they're free to wonder the playground alone

I'm not paranoid so much as goofy.....I used our silly nicknames on magnets and first initials on our FE. Our daughter has a different last name then we do so we invented our "family name" years ago by combining parts of our names/nicknames to make a new last name (in fun only). So that's the name we used on our FE and magnets. We are the Shabeekerson's :cool1:

I agree - I'm not at all worried about putting their names on the fe (I posted about the backpacks thinking that may be one of the reasons others have issues with it).

We talk to the girls about stranger danger and we don't leave them alone without supervision so it's a non issue.

I love that!!

The first year I was leery about putting my daughters name on our FE - So we used her nickname from a team she had been on the spring before -so she was "J-Kid" for a year or two.....

We just use first names, as anyone on the ship would be hearing them anyway.

I guess some people are more cautious because their kids names are more ethnic or unique. Someone with an old family name from let's say....china, is going to stand out more than an Emily. In today's age, privacy is something not easy to find so some people still worry. I mean, remember when the Internet was only used by the government to prevent dangerous foreign hackers??? Yes, some people are still paranoid about that :o

Ok will someone steer me in the right direction for all info regarding FE? The more I read the more I think I want to do this for our cruise next April...thank you..

Ours has a pirate ship on the top. Because the boys and I were travelling with my parents and my DH wasn't going, we decided not to do names on it as we would likely not travel in that exact configuration again. I bought letter "patches" from the craft store for our first initials and attached them with velcro so that they can be switched out next time.
