Does anyone have a name and address of someone higher up the Disney chain to write to, who will respond to a complaint, other than the resort itself?
I had a few issues at AofA that need to be addressed to a higher authority, other than the hotel itself. One of which was the theft of $700.00 in gift cards from my room. I have filed a report with AofA directly. I would like to follow up with a letter.
Please PM me if you have a name to direct my letter to.

Thanks!

I don't have a name or email for you, but I want to express my sympathy. That's a ton of money to have lost! If you have the receipts for those gift cards, you should be able to recover them, if they weren't spent immediately.

Here's some info from the GC FAQs:
What should I do if my Disney Gift Card is lost or stolen?
Promptly email us at giftcards@disneystore.com to report the card lost or stolen. Your Disney Gift Card will be 'frozen' and any funds remaining on the card (at the time email is received) can be transferred onto a new card if you provide the first 12 digits of your card number. An original proof of purchase receipt (the letter that accompanies your card) for the Disney Gift Card is required to transfer the funds onto a new Disney Gift Card. Unfortunately, any funds spent before the card is reported lost or stolen cannot be recovered.

ETA: You can also call the Disney Gift Card Hotline to report stolen cards. 1-877-650-4327 But you will still need the 16-digit card numbers and possibly the PINs as well.

Did you file a police report? i would have called the cops immediately once I realized the hotel officials weren't helping.

Just a heads up for those of you that do bring gift cards- There is a free Disney GC app where you can enter all your gift cards and track your spending. I logged all my gift cards in before we left home. Had anything happened- I had the serial numbers loaded in the app as proof and could tell where they were being spent.

The app only shows the first 12 digits of the card numbers. You will need all 16 numbers to freeze a lost/stolen GC plus you will need copies of your receipts in order to get them replaces.

It's a good idea to make copies of them, just like you would make copies of your tickets.

were they in the safe?

Excellent question. Also, OP, are you 100% sure you didn't tuck the gift cards away somewhere? I can't imagine they would have been stolen unless they were left out in the open where someone would see them.

I lost our card (with dining, cc, etc) and later found it stuck to a pack of gum that was about the same size. AFTER we got a new one issued. Were your cards stolen out of the safe???

I put my gift cards on this app but I used the last four digits as the name of each card, thus giving me all 16 digits;). You'd still have to keep the PIN's somewhere, but I am not sure if you need the PIN or just a proof of purchase to get a refund in case of loss or theft:confused3.

wow, that is a lot of money to have stolen. I do not ever want to take my purse to the parks with me and my son had narcotic meds so I put the meds and my wallet in the safe and then I hide to key in a shoe, put the pair of shoes in a bag, put the bag inside of a large piece of luggage and then tuck it away so that I don;t lose the key in the parks, but so that it is not just sitting around.

Thanks for clarifying. I remembered entering in all the numbers and PIN but didn't realize all it showed were the first twelve. I like the idea the other poster had about numbering them by the last 4 digits. Will have to remember that. I had about $1200 in GC's and they stayed in the safe with some traveler's checks, cash and jewelry. I took the key with me to the parks. Next time we go we will probably just use the KTTW with charging privileges and pay off with my Disney Visa and traveler's checks. Didn't see any major advantage to having all those GC's except I was able to set the money aside and buy them a few at a time.

OP - sorry for this happening. This suggestion won't help you, but it may help others. Last time I was at Disney and had a lot of money on gift cards, I had the front desk put them on my room account when I checked in. Then I just charged everything to the room, and it all went against the balance I had put on my room. Then I didn't need to worry about anything happening to the gift cards.

This is an excellent idea. If you have money left over at the end of your stay, they will place it on a gift card and return it to you. This minimizes the possibility of having your GC stolen from your room.

A great idea that, if I'm remembering correctly, doesn't work? Someone chime in that has done it.....but I think someone told me last year that you couldn't load a reserve on your ressie.....you had to watch your spending and go to the front desk when it got close to 500.00 to put the gift cards on the account to pay it so it wouldn't get charged to your credit card on file. We used to put cash on our account when we checked in, many many years ago (late 90's) but again, I think someone said you couldn't do that anymore?

I put several hundred dollars worth of gift cards on my room last August. I don't remember if it totaled more than $500, but it was between $400 and $650.

We did this in Sept. When I checked in at POR I had them swipe my gift cards. I had about $1200 added to my room. Then we would just use our room key for charging. I checked the balance around the half way mark. Worked perfect. We also had to have a credit card on the account.

I'm glad that it works.....obviously whomever told me you couldn't do it was mistaken. I'm glad to hear it.....we used to do it when we worked on cash only. I wanted to do it in October but remembered being told you couldn't have a 'credit balance' so we just carried our gift cards with us. It would definitely have been easier to just put those on the account when we checked in :)
