The school near us did not have air-conditioning when I was a child either. However, when they added it in, they also sealed up the windows so that the air conditioning would be more efficient. Now, when the air conditioning goes out, there’s no way to open the windows or create a cross breeze within the classrooms. The same school I went to 1962-1969 has had air conditioning added, but NOW if an ac unit breaks, they send the kids home early because it is "too hot". It's just as hot as it was when I went there without ac and we didn't get sent home early.
