We're talking good ol' Humane Society Breed (aka most likely to be a mutt).
When you adopt a dog, most of the time the breed is the best guess of whoever was working that day, so I figured we could play the same game. :)

Here's my little sweetie pie of a mutt. He was listed as a beagle (and since he was there with his mom, who was a beagle, and siblings; I think that part of the guess is right) but he is definitely not all beagle. What do you think he is?

A few of his characteristics are that he pretty much jumps like a gazelle when he runs and is a huge mouse catcher. He is definitely a hunter type dog and I can't say how many birds, mice, and rabbits he has caught (and messed with as if he was an orca and they were baby seals).

ETA- sorry for the picture size, they were supposed to be way smaller and I don't know how to fix it.

With his top line, his prey drive and your description of his movement, I would hazard to guess there may be some sight hound in him.

[....pssssst, love yer countdown thingie! ;) ]

[... I love it, too. :lmao: We have a 2 bedroom at Kidani Village booked and I just can't wait to sit on the balcony in the morning and drink my coffee.]

And now on topic... nice looking dog, no matter what his breed is! :thumbsup2

Cute!

Before I guess, how old/tall/big is he? He does have a very long-legged look.

His body type looks like my weimaraner- but yes, his coloring looks like a german shepher!

He is 14 months old and is about couch seat height. He can lay his head on the couch seat if he's just standing but we have a taller/fluffier seated couch than some other couches. The top of his head comes up to my knees and I'm 5'7".

He is also super skinny. Seriously, you'd think he never eats! The vet was thinking that maybe there was some Whippet or greyhound in him too.

I was going to guess greyhound because of the long legs, but thought I was being biased because of the two retired racers lounging at my feet! :lmao:

At 14 months he looks a lot like a slightly shorter heavier version of two greyhound pups I've met, but with beagle ears. We don't often see puppies in retired racing greyhound kennels but these two came from an oops litter (breeder could not identify the sire so they couldn't be registered.)

I could certainly be wrong, but whatever the mix he is very cute!

Yup, that is what I meant when I suggested he had sight hound in him. Your description of how he moves, along with the top line and his back end (the tuck and back legs) and how you describe his prey drive, suggests whippet, greyhound or one of the other sight hounds.

Except for the coloring, I don't see shepherd at all. Structurally, there really isn't much resemblance to suggest a GSD.

Thanks for everyone's ideas :) This is fun!

I think the oddest looking mix I've had is a lab/corgy mix. It was a black lab with black lab head and tail, but the legs and core of a corgy.

I just wanted to stop in and say that he is one very, very handsome boy! :dog2:
