Our first trip to Disney in 1990, we had a great breakfast on a boat in Downtown Disney (think it was called Disney Village back then). Our kids were small and got name tags and their pictures taken. It was a character breakfast.

Anyone refresh my memory?

Thanks,

I believe that was the Empress Lily -- or something like that. It doesn't exist anymore. I, too, recall taking our son to a character breakfast there when he was about 5 or 6 -- that was about 15 years ago.

Empress Lily was the name of the boat.

There were three restaurants located within it. The Empress Room was a "jacket for men" place. Steerman's Quarters served steak and the like and Fisherman's Deck served....well, you can guess.

We never did the character breakfast there but I'm reasonable sure it would have been at one of the last two. Steerman's Deck was darker with red leather and dark wood furniture and I think paneled walls. Fisherman's Deck had white woodwork and blue furnishings and was the brighter spot of the two.

We miss those restaurants.:sad2:

It is now Fulton's.:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

The boat is still there. Just the dining experience inside that's changed.

Yep, but the name of the boat is no longer Empress Lily.:sad1:

The name has changed and it isn't really a boat, but a building surrounded by water.

Good point. I wonder why they did that!? I suppose it had too much charm.

Was it a character breakfast? If it was, i was there in 1986, my 1st time to Disney! I was 7 years old :)

caracap, you are making me feel old! Yes, it was a character breakfast.

I'm looking at my DS and DD in the picture I took from the breakfast. Looks like a dark room, so maybe it ws the steerman's deck.

Thanks for all the replies.

I know that it was serving breakfast in 1987 and 1989. I think that it was the only spot where Donald ate breakfast with guests at that time. We still have our felt pennant from that breakfast, signed by Minnie, Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. Great memory!

Take a look at some old photos of the Empress Lilly and compare them to that "building/boat" that's now there----
And no comparison between the 3 good restaurants on the Empress Lilly (we ate at all 3) and the sorry spot that inhabits the area now.
BCV23: Fishermans Deck reminded me a little bit of how Ariels looked when it was open.

Uncleromulus although we certainly walked by it, Ariel's is one of the places we never dined and now regret missing. We always figured we do so eventually. Same with the Empress Room although our children were far too young for that one.

Mackey Mouse, interesting thread. Our sons' first character meal was Mickey's Menehune in Nov. of '83.:goodvibes

At the risk of hi-jacking this thread - I sure wish that Disney would reopen Ariel's. At least if they do it to the quality level of, say AP or YSH. I'm always looking for a new, quality dining experience at WDW.

We did the character breakfast there twice......early 1990's. Each was in a different room.
