My friend and I are starting a consignment sale in our area and were wondering if anyone could help us with a name - you all are so creative!

It will be a twice a year - spring/fall type of sale. Here's what we have come up with (none of which we agree or our husbands agree :confused3 )

  • Happily Ever After
  • Fairytale Endings
  • Once and Again

Any help? There are some great names of sales that are already established and I don't want to steal anyone's name already.
Thanks all!

hey - I'm not creative enough to help with the name, but I wanted to give you a hint - if you're thinking of having a website, you might want to check your names against what you can get as a URL. Just check Network Solutions for open web names.

Good luck on your sale. I have been to several of these, one grew so big that they finally rented a vacant store twice a year. I couldn't believe the money these people were making, they had been at it for about 10 years. The people would line up at 10:00 a.m. for a sale that started at 6 p.m. The consigners would get 60%, the sponsors would get 40%.

Great ideas - keep them coming!
Once and Again was the name that I came up with 2 years ago when I started thinking about starting this.
We were thinking 70/30 split on the consignment and see how it goes. Any thoughts on how to get the word out? Obviously word of mouth, but I was thinking of visiting the preschools and daycares in the area. We were also considering sending out save the date postcards/flyers because the first sale would be in March for a spring/summer sale.

Thanks again!

I think the school/preschool idea is great. Word of mouth is going to be a huge part of it.

Who gets the 70, you or them? Around here they are all 50/50 and its still hard to compete with ebay to get any quality clothes.

How about something to do with Recycle or Green those seem to be popular themes. If you like the Disney theme how about Cindy's Closet or Princesses and Pirates.

A couple of friends and I were in the process of starting one a few years ago and then I got pregnant and it was going to be too much. But the name we were going to use was Trendy Tots.

There are some good suggestions for names so far!

My sister's have a pretty big one in lower AL. Another place to advertise is Pediatricians and OB-Gyns. Word of mouth is definitely a big way to advertise.

My sister's do a 60/40 split with a 70/30 split on items $75 or more. They had over 700 consigner's this past sale and this was their 8th year at it. Good luck!

We would get the 30 - consignors would get 70. I think 50/50 is crazy. I would rather sell things myself for 50%. 60/40 sounds more reasonable. Our costs will probably be minimal as we have a space available for free. I also thought about charging a minimum of $5 per consignor.

I'm part of one called Kid2Kid. We are super lucky that we get 90% of the profit!

I always make a couple hundred bucks at each sale. There are 80 sellers and the list to get in as a seller is a mile long! I happened to get in as a sub seller because someone was going to be out. The ladies that run the whole thing loved my name brand clothes so much they added me as the 81st seller permanently. I think they bought almost half my stuff the night before at the sellers only sale.

Best of luck with your new venture. It's alot of fun and it allows people to get some really good deals for their kids. I had never bnought at the sale but did this last time for my sister who is expecting her first. Got some unbelieveable deals for her!!

Most of the ones around here charge $5 for adverstising costs, etc. And it's a 70/30 split unless you sell more than $200 worth of stuff and then it's usually an 80/20 split.

I like the pp 2nd Avenue suggestion. That is creative and cute!!!

Here are some of the consignments around my area (Central Alabama):

Elite Repeat
Sweet Repeat
Kids Market and Mom

The last one has a website. But, they are HUGE! They run twice a year out of an old grocery store. It is packed to the gills with clothes, baby furniture and gear, toys...anything associated with kids. They are strict about what they will accept (no stains, current season, current styles, etc) but it makes for a great sale b/c you aren't sorting thru junky clothes. They do a 2/3 split (consignor gets 2/3, they get 1/3) of the selling price. I've always sold nearly everything, and usually get about $400 to $700 per sale.

You can tag your clothes so that they can be marked down in the final days, or donated to charity, etc. It might be a little more in depth than what you want to do, but you might can get some ideas from their site. kidsmarketandmom dot com

Word of mouth is huge, as well as preschools, pediatricians, etc. Also, I would suggest putting something in a local parent publication if you have one. We have one called Birmingham Parent around here. Also, try advertising in the Penny Saver if you have one in your area.

Good luck!

Hope this helps!

Oh how I love the idea of these consignment sales! (as a buyer and seller!) I have read about these before and have tried to find one of these in my are (i'm in CT), but have had no luck. Do any of you know of any websites that advertise consignment sales?? I've googled just about everything, but haven't had any luck. :confused3
