name change question

Im not sure where to post this, just thought I would ask here,

my boyfriend is changing his last name, however when I purchased the airfare I wrote his old last name for his ticket.

heres my question: is it a big deal? should I call and let them know? do you think there is a fee to do so?

(for all you curious minds hes changing his name because is a very difficult last name, and he is doing it as a request from his grandfather who has since past who wanted it done himself. So from a family of procrastinators, my boyfriends is actually applying himself.)

I would contact the airline directly. They are very strict about name changes on tickets, so you are better off dealing directly with them.

I agree, call the airline and talk to them about it.
These days they want matching ID and ticket. I was almost denied boarding once for booking a ticket in the name of Liz and not Elizabeth (as my drivers license said). I mean come on..Liz is part of Elizabeth .... they let me on, but I learned my lesson. Keep the names and ID the same!

I'll definitely call them tomorrow and ask, and as for matching names on id's he has to renew his license 2 weeks before we go anyway so the new name will be on it.

ah you know what....nevermind. I just found out i'd have to cancel the ticket and rebook...and that would cost almost $200....I'll just tell him to wait until we get back from Disney. Too much of a hassle.

Would he have an official court document that would show his name change?

If he has identification, like a driver's license, with his current name and picture on it, why not keep that ID for the trip and go ahead with his name change now?
All they'll be looking for at the airports is an ID that matches the name on the ticket. As long as he keeps his current ID he would be fine.

When you renew your DL they keep your old one. So no way could he change his name on DL, then use the old one for the trip. I agree I'd wait until you return then take care of everything.

It depends on the state, for some strange reason DH still has all his old licenses.
