Hi. I emailed Airtran about this and while I'm waiting 72 hours for their response;) , I thought maybe someone here would have some insight. We are going down in August and have had air tickets purchased since January. My BFF and her boyfriend/fiancee have decided to get married in May (small courthouse marriage as she has been married before) and she will be changing her last name. Will she need to bring her marriage license to show her old name...the one the ticket was purchased under? Surely, this name change due to marriage is different than the changes made to tickets that would cost 60.00, at least I'm assuming there would be no charge:confused3 . Anyone know this is handled?

It might be easier than you think. Will she have changed her driver's license by the time of the trip? If not, then there's no need to change the ticket.

Or, does she have any other form of government-issued photo ID that she could use at the airports, such as a passport? If she has a passport with her maiden name, I'd recommend just using that and not bothering with all the red tape associated with changing her name on the airline ticket.

She does not have any other government issued ID - I had considered the drivers license thing and will ask her when her current one expires. Maybe when I hear from Airtran it won't be to difficult. Thanks!

When I first got married it took me awhile to change my license from my maiden name to my married name (it was right after 9/11 and motor vehicles was a mess.) Anyway, when I would fly the airlines required an original copy of my marriage certificate (the kind with the raised seal) and my license (which was in my maiden name.)

I'm not sure if things have changed since then. You could call AT and double check with them. I'm pretty certain that if you tell them that you are getting married before flying and you will have id in your new last name they will tell you to bring your marriage cert. (I think the only thing is it has to be original i.e. not a photocopy.)

Hope that helps!:thumbsup2
