Nachi Cocum in Cozumel - Worried about Food and Drink

At the risk of sounding completely paranoid, I am considering booking a day at Nachi Cocum, but I am concerned that my kids (ages almost 3 and almost 6) will not tolerate the food/drinks (meaning they might get sick). My husband and I travelled to an all inclusive resort in Mexico several years ago, and 5 out of 6 of us became very ill. I also have a colleague whose young daughter returned home with a parasitic illness after spending a week in Mexico. I am not normally this edgy, but it is definitely one of the reasons that we choose to cruise nowadays in lieu of all inclusives.
Sooooo, has anyone had any experiences, positive or negative, with the food/beverages at Nachi Cocom? Am I being completely paranoid?

Love Love love nachi coconut! Great food and drink. No concerns with getting sick. Cruise passengers are their bread and butter. If word got out folks were getting sick they wouldn't be in business for long! Great place with a nice pool area and beach!

We've been there twice and have loved the place, food, and drinks both times. The last time we had our 4 y.o. and 2 y.o. and they ate a lot and loved it. None of us have ever been sick from Nachi Cocum. We're going again during our May cruise on the Fantasy.

As someone who wound up violently ill after a visit to Acapulco many years ago, I understand your concern.

That said.....LOVE NACHI!!! I was there last May and ate, and drank, and ate, and drank....did I mention that I ate and drank??? Great place and I've never heard of anyone getting sick from a visit there. Well, except for overindulging in alcohol, but I assume your kiddos can keep their drinking under control. :lmao:

That makes me feel better. Do you have to book beforehand, or could we just try our luck on the day we are there?

We loved the food as well!!!

We booked early b/c we wanted to guarantee we had a spot.

I'm so glad you asked this question!!! We leave Friday and this has been on my mind - I don't know why I didn't think to ask it. :) I have a 2 and 5 year old, so I have the same concerns!!

Love Love love nachi coconut! Great food and drink.

Love Nachi. No problem with the food. I would definitely reserve ahead of time. They only allow a certain number of guests.

I would book ahead of time. We were turned away one time because we did not have a reservation, and they were at their capacity. (The taxi driver did not even want to take us there unless we had a reservation to show him.) This may only happen at peak times, though... We also love Nachi Cocum!!! :lovestruc

According to their website, they only allow 100 people per day. I would definitely book ahead.

love love love :love::love: nachi cocum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love the nachos and the coconut ice cream

Definitely book ahead of time as every other cruise ship has passengers booking there as well.

Apologies for not getting back sooner to answer your question but I see that others did. Absolutely reserve ASAP. They only allow 100 on their beach per day and it is lovely. You will put down a deposit by credit card (using their website), then pay the balance in cash when you get there. Once there, they only take cash, so be prepared. It's all-inclusive but if you want extras, like a massage or something, that is an additional fee.

Have fun!

I'm wondering if someone could clarify how the food and beverage service works? Are you just allowed to order once during the day? Or is it all inclusive while you are there?

Are there frozen drinks? Non-alcoholic frozen drinks for the kids?

Just curious as to how this all works...

THANKS! :goodvibes

The food goes like this: you each get three courses. Appetizer, entree and dessert. You can order them as slowly as you like. We like to alternate with one of us ordering an app, then the next so that we are eating all day. Portions are nice sized.

Drinks are continual while you are there, and if a server doesn't come quick enough, you can go up to the bar and get a drink. (Also a swim up bar) Frozen drinks are included, but I don't think any of the alcohol was top shelf. They did have bottled bear, Coronas etc. They will also give you bottles of water and soft drinks if you like. I thought the bottles of water were a nice touch when you have been drinking all day.

Thanks, Kaleigh!

Does it work the same for the kids? App, entree and dessert? Is it the same menu or different? I saw they have several different prices based on the ages of the kids---does the menu differ for each age group?

What was your opinion of the food?

Thanks again! Sooo appreciate the insight! :goodvibes

Nachi Cocom was one of the biggest highlights of our Cruise last week—I was there 1 week ago today, and am still dreaming about it! Here are some tips, based on our experience:
1. book/reserve spots ahead of time, absolutely!
2. take plenty of sunscreen
3. The drinks are all-inclusive, as much as you can drink for the whole day. They include Corona, Dos Equis, Strawberry Daquiris (with and without alcohol—my kids loved them!), Pina Coladas (with or without alcohol), Margaritas, bottled water. We didn’t try to order soft drinks or other beers or any wine; we stuck with frozen fruity drinks and bottled water mostly, though did get 2 Coronas so we could get the beach shot (See below).

4. The food is served as 3 or 4 courses, which you can order stretched out over the day, but there is only 1 serving of each course per person (ie not all you can eat food, but the portions are generous). There was no separate kids menu (the youngest in our group was 10 years old). Here are some photos (prices on the menu are in pesos, but there was no additional charge for us as food was all included).

5. Absolutely no problem with any kind of stomach illness from this experience, the biggest challenge was pacing myself with the fruity drinks LOL
6. It is a perfect, lazy day on the beach. Each group gets their own palapa (umbrella) and there is 1 lounge chair per person. We were also lucky enough to be situated near a set of 3 hammocks which was lovely. We didn’t pay for any of the extras (water sports, massages, photos, etc). Our kids are older, so were happy to just swim or hang out in the hammocks/chairs and read. There isn’t any organized activity for younger kids, but there were several 7-9 year olds there that seemed happy to swim in the pool or just play in the sand.

7. The freshwater pool is gorgeous, and includes a swim up bar :)
8. It is strictly cash only, so be prepared. We took a van taxi for the 6 of us from the port for $34US (with tip each adult just paid $20 to make it easy), and then we tipped our server in cash at the end of the day (our server was great, and since the 6 of us kept him running all day each family tipped $25US). Our server had a taxi for us to return to port within 5 minutes of us asking for one.

Can't say enough great things about our experience here!
