I've been getting bumped off the internet(cable,XP home)constantly. Comcast came out today to fix it and there's nothing wrong with the cable. I am getting an N-case warning and they think this is the problem. They told me to do a system restore to an earlier date and then run a virus check. When I go back 3 weeks to do a system restore I still get the N-case warning(this date was before I started having problems). I need to download a new virus protection but don't want to do that if I have to do another system restore. Will a virus program fix this or should I go back datewise on the restore until I don't get the warning???
I'm so confused!!!

Thanks Aunt Lissa! I'm not sure what to do right now since even restoring my computer back to May I still get bumped off IE!! I'm currently without a virus program since comcast thought at one point that it was blocking my internet access and had me delete it. Now getting the files back that I already paid for seems to need an act of Congress. If I have to I'll pay for a new antivirus program, but want to make sure I don't have to do another system restore and loose all the new antivirus programs.

This is what I found in regards to N-Case:

How do I Remove NCase?

1) Because several files may be in use currently when NCase has infected your system, you should first start Windows in Safe Mode, generally by pressing F8 when the computer restarts and choosing Safe Mode for the list of choices.

2) Remove the Startup Entry in the Registry

Click on Start, Run, Type REGEDIT and Click OK

Click the pluses(+) next to the following items
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Run

Right-Click on the file MSBB and click DELETE
Check for any randomly named entries pointing to an EXE file of the same name in the Windows directory
(this can be part of the NCASE infection as well)

Click the pluses(+) next to the following items
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Uninstall
Right-click and Delete the following folders
nCase
msbb
Click the pluses(+) next to the following items
HKEY_Current_User
Software
Right-click and Delete the folder called 180solutions
3) Delete the NCASE folder and/or the MSBB.exe file

Open My Computer, Drive C, Program Files
Right-click on the NCASE folder (if it exists) and Delete it, you may also find a 180Solutions folder, delete this as well.
Look for and Delete MSBB.EXE in the System or System32 directory under Windows

4) Remove the Active X Control (if present)

Open My Computer, Drive C, Windows, Downloaded Program Files folder
Right-click on the nCaseInstaller Class entry (if present) and click Delete
Close back out to the Desktop
5) Reboot the computer in Normal Mode and test (ncase should be gone)

Looks like you got a nasty one there. Good Luck!

So oogie, you think this is a virus??The spysweeper seems to be a little easier to get rid of it, but now I'm paranoid to do anything!can n-case interrupt your internet access or is it an annoyance thing??

Looks like it's spyware. It's a shopping data engine. This is what spybot says about it:

When you register with one of 180Solutions' distribution partners, you may be asked to provide certain personal information about yourself and your interests. In some cases, non-personally identifiable information about you may be passed to us by the partner. This may include, but is not limited to, your age, sex, geographic region and interests. [...] When n-CASE is actively running on your computer, the software generates logs of your surfing activity, including web pages you have visited and the order in which you visited these pages. These logs are then uploaded to 180Solutions' secure servers. We use these logs for market research purposes and to provide you with offers and content specifically targeted to your interests and habits. 180Solutions stores these logs on our servers, for our use.

So...
First thing, get spybot. You can download it from download.com. Then run it. Spybot has n-case in their threat list, so it should get rid of it.

If it doesn't then go back and do a manual cleanup of it.

your welcome. Just remember to run spybot once a week at least and you'll be set.

Looks like you got all the advise, great. Since I upped my Ad-aware free program to the Plus version (I think about 25 bucks), I have had no spyware found by either running an Ad-awrae scan nor a Spybot scan. The Plus version is proactive, KEEPING the garbage off in the first place, rather than finding it after it is on, as I had been doing. Proactive is better than reactive

Thanks Dan!! I'll check it out. I'm just so happy to not get bumped off 30 times an hour!!!

I finally broke down and downloaded Spybot and Ad-Aware after almost tearing my hair out trying to get rid of spyware that continually got into my registry. I got sick of my browser page being hijacked by other search engines, and I was sick of pop-ups, especially the naked ones!

I had McAfee Antispyware on my computer, but it just wasn't doing the trick, even running it everyday. So I got smart and downloaded the above two programs. I get the updates and run the programs daily and this has been a lifesaver for me. I would highly recommend them to all. I also downloaded the Google toolbar although I don't know how much it helps, but the number of popups blocked goes up each day, so it must be doing something good.
