MYW tickets using biometric scanner?

I have read a post, and gotten a reply to a post in another thread, that the MYW tickets will use the biometric scanner. Anyone have definite information on this?

I can't really see how this could be done if tickets are going to be sold through brokers; they won't have your name on them. I have been through the AP activation process and can't see how WDW could do this for every ticket. Add that to the fact that the scanner never worked for me...Either way, I would like to know before I purchase tickets as I have trips planned with 2 different poeple and was going to buy one ticket for them to share.

That is what I have read, but Disney has been hush hush about alot of this. We will find out in less than 48 hours.

Disney wants to enforce its non transferable ticket rule. My guess would be, that the first person to use the ticket would be locked in as it's "owner" until ticket expires....... It will cause confusion even in families not abusing the rule about no sharing. We have 6 people, and we just grab the tickets and hand them out randomly when we get to the park. Now, we will have to write names on the back so we don't get mixed up, I think.

I don't think this will be ready for next week, though?

PatMcDuck,

From what I read, that wont be necessary. I believe that the tickets are printed with the person's name on them when you get them from Disney reservations, like you would see on an AP or PAP.

The tickets that will be sold in the stores have no way of listing anyones name on them. From what I understand only passes up to 7 days will be sold in the stores and you will not be able to purchase the no expiration option in the stores. You will have add this on once you get to WDW. The park hopping and plus features are available in the stores.

I think they would have to print the name on them if they are going to use biometrics. If the biometrics fail (which it often does), how could they prove you are not the rightful owner? Currently on AP's they can ask for ID as proof. Perhaps TDS will sell vouchers, like AP's.

Some of the online ticket brokers already have tickets listed that are up to 10 days with no expiration...maybe they do give you a voucher rather than the actual ticket, but we are back to the issue of having to activate thousands of tickets everyday.

I hope that someone who buys them tomorrow will post.

I don't know how much help I will be since I plan to do package pricing online, but I will pass on any information that I can Sunday morning.

For us WDW fans, this is almost like Christmas eve all over again. So close to finally being able to check everything out for sure and yet so far away.

we just returned from WDW. My DH had to replace his AP on our first night. While we were waiting for the CM to process it I asked about this. He said they aren't calling it "biometric scanning" anymore but rather something like ticket tagging. It won't be for one person per ticket, it's for the family. In other words if I buy tickets for my parents and my family the initial scan of our fingers will all be coded together so it doesn't matter which ticket you put in the machine, it will pull up your group and search within the group for your individual scan. He did say they would print the group name on them. When I asked about buying them in advance he said it was his understanding that you would get a voucher to turn in and get your tickets at Guest Relations.

Hope this helps a little!

Turn in the voucher at guest relations for the tickets. Oh I can see the lines forming for Sunday already. It could really be a mess Sunday. I hope that all the CM's have picked up the information pretty good because if not, people could be in lines for a couple hours just to pick up tickets.

I hope this is true and that they will be tagging the entire family/group for the new tickets as well (instead of identifying one person per ticket). Any updates on this?

My understanding based on a post from a UK-based member of another Disney board is that this has always been true. The 10-day UK tickets that were FITS-like had biometrics attached, and s/he found them to be exchangeable within the family.

Just think, there will be a totally new data base of fingerprints for CSI or NCIS to use when they are solving crimes....

Not fingerprints: hand geometry. Not as "unique," but good enough to foil garden variety ticket transfers.

I was at WDW yesterday. There was a sign saying that guests 10 years and up have to do the "ticket tagging". There are even lights on the turnstiles where you put your ticket in to show where you are in the process, ie 1) Place ticket here, 2) Place fingers in the reader, Hmmm can't remember what the 3rd one was. I have an AP so I am used to the drill.

Anybody find out if the biometric scanning was one person per ticket, or tickets for the whole family?

I am annoyed by this change because we are taking the inlaws to the parks next fall, and because I dont know their park style, I dont know if we should get them a ticket for each day or if we should get fewer. I was planning on getting a longer ticket, letting them use as many days as they wanted without making them feel like they *HAVE* to go everyday to get their moneys worth and then using any leftover days ourselves in the future.
*sigh* could be worse i suppose, but its still annoying :charac2:

Are they ticket tagging every kind of ticket including the PHP or just the new MYW ticket? We have left over PHP for everyone except one in my family already. I plan to buy a 10 day no expire MYW ticket. I hope they can tag all our tickets for our family so we do not have to specify one person for the new ticket.

elfbo,
I called WDW CRO and was told that each person in the party will have their own ticket with only their biometric scan on it. Which means no ticket sharing.

I have read contrary information, we will have to wait and see once someone uses them.
