We have a MYW package and I understand the room key will also be our park passes- but can we get an additional room key that is JUST a room key? It will only open our hotel room door- but it won't have any park passes associated with it?

If you have a MYW package, doesn't everyone in the room have to get the package including a ticket? Who would use the key without a ticket on it?

Actually, I'd like to know the answer to that also.

My reason is that we are going as part of a Grand Gathering and I have 3 young adults (2 19 year olds and one 17 year old) in a room and since I paid for it, I'd like to have access and know what's going on in there, just to keep things in order.

We want to hold the keys for the younger members of our party (9,10, 12 year olds) but would like them to to able to let themselves into the room after swimming or going to the arcade... without handing them their $200 park passes.
We are also part of a GG and we may be visiting each others rooms for various reasons, and it would be helpful if we could do this.

For example- Grandma- who is staying at ASMO may be taking her grandchild, age 2, back to his room at POLY for a nap. He won't have a key because he is 2, and if the other members of his party want to hop or use their tickets for FP they can't just give Grandma one of their keys. So can we get a Key- JUST PLAIN KEY- for Grandma?

Well, let's work it out backwards:
Every person on your package reservations has to have the same 'status' to start. Let's say because a couple of you have APs, or some want to go to the waterparks while others wouldn't be caught dead in public in a bathing suit - you book the package with one-day base passes for everyone. While you're checking in, you upgrade various tickets to meet various criteria.
Since the CM is making changes anyway, they MAY be able/allowed to issue actual tickets to some members of your party instead of coding the admissions onto the room key. Honestly, probably your BEST answer would come from Disney. Call CRO and ask for a supervisor; see if what you want to do is possible. Because on the other hand, I can see Disney refusing - what's to stop you from trying to sell the now-actual-tickets?
As for the Grandma thing - I can't see Disney just issuing a room key for the use of someone not on the reservation. You may be able to get her one but if there are already two adults in the room you'd have to pay the additional per-person per-night cost. Or, you just may need to be inconvenienced and send someone back to the hotel with her, or have her take the baby back to HER hotel.

2trips: You, on the other hand, I think CAN get an additional room key. There's only one Disney-hotel-defined adult in that room right now; but again, you'd have to talk to Disney. They may not give you an extra room key because you already have a room.

I don't know - but I would think Disney would frown on it, since a resort ID (room key) is needed for extra magic hours, so they might not want to just give out extra ones. You may have to call Disney to find out the answer to this one.

Thanks guys- I did call and find out that they would allow the room keys and tix to be separate-

I went with 3 friends a few years ago and we had 2 rooms next to each other. They set all our keys to open both doors.

Yes , this can be done.

We did this when I took the entire family a couple of years ago. Just ask at the resort for extra room keys and they will code them for you.

As far as extra magic hours, Many people have tickets seperate of your packages, like me for example. DW and I have AP's so our resort keys are for room entry and charging. Extra magic hours are for all resort guests, not just ones on packages. I suspose that someone could get extra key's to abuse the system but really, do you want a total stranger to have access to your resort room?

As far as being worried about "losing a $200 ticket" - I wouldn't worry so much.

The tickets use the biometrics system, so it would be fairly hard for someone to use a day off your tickets. Plus with the tickets being "attached" to your room key - should you lose the ticket, they can pull it up with your reservation via your name. Should one of the kids lose their ticket/room key, they can stop at the front desk, verify their information, and have it reprinted. I'm not sure if they can do this with "Stand alone" tickets.
