MYW Base Ticket usage

We booked a 4-day WDW package (MYW base ticket, resort, and dining plan) for spring way before they came out with the spring promo. When the spring promo was released, I called to have them tack on the promo so I got a discount on the resort and my 4-day MYW ticket became a 5 day ticket. Great, I'm thrilled! However, we don't plan on extending our stay, so is there a way for us to still use that extra day? We're doing a Disney Cruise before our WDW stay and we plan on arriving a day early for the cruise. Would we be able to use that extra day's ticket the day before our cruise, cruise for a few days, come back and not have any problems using the other 4 days' MYW tickets we'd originally planned for?

I know this is rather confusing so I hope I explained it ok. :)

Awesome! Will the tickets be "activated" yet since we're not officially resort guests until after our cruise? I'm fairly sure we'll have our Magic Bands by then. Do I need to let Disney know that it's our plan to use 1 day of the tickets before we're officially staying with them?

If the tickets are on the MB can they be activated at any time? Prior to MBs any tickets associated with a package could only be picked up 3 days before the start of the resort stay per Cheshire Figment's ticket sticky.

Absolutely. Tickets are good for 14 days from first use.

That part is correct but the fact that the tickets are part of a package adds another layer into this question.

As someone else said, prior to MagicBands tickets as part of a package could only be activated 3 days early.

I don't know if this is still the case.

CF (our resident ticket guy) has not posted a change to it from what I can tell. So, to the best of our knowledge, the limit as to how early you can pick up your tickets still stands. That limit is 3 days early. So, if the day you want to pick them up is before then, you will not be able to.

You're right. Somehow, I missed the fact that the ticket is part of a package. Unfortunately then, I don't see a way to use that extra day before the cruise.

See now I'm all sorts of confused. I called WDW's ticket line to ask the question and the CM made no mention about the 3 day activation. I had her pull up my reservation so that she could see it was part of a package and I specifically asked about how it would work with Magic Band. I asked her if I'd be able to use one day's worth of the tickets I had associated with my reservation before my cruise, and specified that it was a 4 night cruise. She said, "yes, you can. You have 14 days to use your tickets." No mention of the 3 day activation. Could it be that MB is still so new that not all the CMs know about the ins and outs of it yet? One of the biggest reasons I'd like to know for sure is so I know how to book my plane tickets. If I can use it before the cruise, I'll book an early flight and hit the parks the day before the cruise, if not I'll take a later flight that day.

Just to add more confusion to the mix (because that's fun, right?:rotfl2:) I called back to verify. The second CM told me my park tickets wouldn't actually be activated until the date of arrival and check in. I asked if there was anything that could be done to activate them earlier so that I can use it before the cruise and if online check in makes a difference and was told no on both counts. Oh well. Now I know. :)

I can understand your confusion. Upthread I asked if MBs have changed the rules about early pick up, but it would appear that it hasn't changed and is still up to 3 days in advance. Cheshire Figment hasn't changed the info on the ticket sticky and he keeps the thread up to date. The info is in post 15-I on this sticky:

The second CM you spoke with gave the standard response that tickets cannot be used until you check in for your package. The up to 3 days in advance is a ticketing department procedure.

The first CM may not have understood that you wouldn't be checking in until after your cruise or may have been misinformed (which unfortunately has happened much too often with phone line CMs).
