I keep hearing how great Mythos is so we've decided to try it on our upcoming trip. Will we need a reservation? If so, where/how can we make one? Does Universal have an online system like WDW?

Depending on what time of year you are going, you could get away with making a same-day reservation. I've done this in peak times during April and August. I prefer doing it this way so that I have more flexibility in my schedule. If you want to do it at the park, as you enter Islands of Adventure there is a cart just outside the 'Port of Entry' with a reservation sign over it. You can make reservations at Mythos and other Universal restaurants.

Hope you have a great trip :)

A word of warning......Do NOT dine there within an hour of the posted closing time. We made that mistake and had one of the worst dining experiences of our lives. We were on the verge of walking out when the food FINALLY arrived. The servers were waiting on a virtually empty restaurant, yet the food took almost an hour to arrive. The servers were waiting in vain for the kitchen to fork over the meals. I had a bird's eye view and could see that the servers were TRYING, but what can they do if the kitchen won't send the food out? The server confirmed that the managers leave every day around an hour before closing and the kitchen goes to hell in a handbasket. The take their sweet time, generally slack off, etc. When our food FINALLY arrived, mine had obviously been roasting under a heat lamp, DD's was lukewarm at best and DH said his was okay. It was a terrible letdown after the place had been spoken of so highly. Yes, we complained to Universal (there was no manager at Mythos to complain to) but I never got any assurance they would remedy the situation.

BEWARE the last hour of Mythos! They should have paid US to dine there. :headache:

This is good to know. Thanks for sharing! One question: I thought I read somewhere that Mythos is only open for lunch, from like 11-3ish? No? Am I confusing it with another restaurant or is this outdated info?

I think the Mythos hours depend on what time the park closes...I said I think.

We were there last June....during the first 2 weeks of June. We went into Mythos around noon or so and asked for reservations...I believe they said it would be about an hour so we put our name down and then went and did something and came back.

I remember the food being pretty good but mostly the atmosphere was pretty neat. It was also very hot outside and so nice to get inside a cool looking place and cool off for a while.

We were there in November and it closed at 4:00. WHENEVER it closes, avoid it like the plague for at least an hour before closing. :headache:

We were told they wouldn't do same day reservations when I called the restaurant itself the morning of for a dinner reservation that same day. They may have been fully booked but that's not what the person who answered the phone said. She said "they don't do same day reservations".

I ended up making it for lunch the day after and then cancelling it that day when we decided we were too tired to go into the park so I haven't gotten to eat there yet.

Every time I've eaten there it's been right at opening...around 11am and have never had a bad experience.

In my opinion YES.... Mythos is much better than Hard Rock, but it's like comparing apples to oranges. Mythos has won the BEST theme park restaurant award for many years. They have a creative menu, great food, and the atmosphere can't be beat.

Ate there once, in 2009 - everyone loved it. Had lunch, food great, the most interesting interior (unique in its own way like Disney's Sci-Fi Dine in Diner), a great experience. Will eat there again this fall.

That's because the managers are there at opening time. How I WISH we had gone early instead of close to closing time. I think we would have had a better experience. Goodness knows, it couldn't have been much worse. To know this is a near daily problem that they refuse to address only makes it worse.

We've eaten there at various times during the day for the past 12 years and have never had a problem. I wonder if anyone else has experienced the same problem as you. It would be interesting to get some other reviews.

Seems so weird that all the managers would leave before closing time. Who is closing down the restaurant?

Our server (who was BEYOND frustrated) told us they have this problem all the time. Since the managers/asst. managers decided to start leaving an hour before closing, things have gone downhill. I mentioned to her that, had I not had a good view of how the servers were all anxiously waiting for the food from the kitchen, I would have assumed I had a slacker server and have greatly reduced the tip. She said the servers are constantly being stiffed on tips when they work the last hour, because the diners are getting so upset with waiting FOREVER for their food and assume they have bad servers. In reality, the servers can only deliver the food once the kitchen hands it over. She practicaly begged us to complain, in hopes something would be done.

To give you some idea, there were 4 or 5 servers and most had only ONE table. At best, there were 7 tables of diners. It still took almost an hour to get our food. We all seemed to get our food around the same time, after an ungodly wait. I think the kitchen staff just took a long break, had a drink or ten.......something. But they were NOT cooking.

I kid you not, it was one of the all time worst dining experiences of my life.

Oh I am not doubting that you had an awful experience. It is just that you are the first person to state this issue here. I was wondering if anyone else has similar experiences or if this is something new.

We were there in November. I got the impression from the server that it hasn't been going on forever. But it had been long enough to get on the nerves of the servers, who were on the receiving end of complaints/rants from dissatisfied diners......not to mention getting stiffed on tips for something beyond their control. Truly, I felt awful for the servers. I mean, I can avoid the place from now on, but they are stuck with what's happening until management changes things.

And yes, the server said they had complained to management, to no avail. Which is why she wanted diners to complain. But I got no satisfactory response from Mythos or Universal when I complained. If they don't take customer comments seriously, I've no doubt they have ignored those of servers.

I WILL fit Mythos into our trip this time! I keep saying that and it never happens! But now I know to plan our lunch on the early side. Thanks all!
