MsDis and I went to MYTHOS on 2/3/06 after many rides on MIB. As usual the risotto of the day was fantastic. Spinich risotto, lambchops, rum/tereyaki sauce, mushrooms, pearl onions, veggies.

Seeing Chef Vinny,(filling in for Chef Mark) behind the counter i made a point of letting him know how good the risotto was. He acknowledged my appreciation and came out to the table. He let me know that Chef Mark was having additional difficulties with his back and the decision was made that Chef Vinny would as of 1/30/06 now be the #1 chef at MYTHOS.

Having been at MYTHOS a few times after Chef Mark was hurt, i had a conversation with Robert and made the comment that Chef Mark will really have to step it up a notch when he returns cause Chef Vinny has really come into his own and has created some really unique and fantastic dishes as expressed in the risotto of the day.

I will miss Chef Mark, and at the same time i will enjoy the creations of Chef Vinny. He had a great teacher in Chef Mark and his own creations i am sure will be enjoyed by all :smooth:

If you are fan of LAMB you have to get to MYTHOS. they are preparing lamb in so many different ways you can not imagine :smooth:

Are the lamb entrees "specials" or are they new regular menu items? Are there other new menu items also?

Right now the lamb is primarily in the risotto of the day. But i bet Vinny will get a few special items in there so make sure to ask the wait-staff about it. :smooth:

update as of 6/21/06: CHEF MARK IS BACK!!!!!!

Chef Mark has returned on a take it slow basis to see how his back holds out on a day to day basis.

Starting friday 6/23/06 the BANANA GOOEY CAKE IS BACK. it is not in a test tube like the other desserts. it is back on a plate just like in the old days.

Chef Mark has plans of returning to a daily chef-special-not-on-the-menu item.
Between both Chef Mark and Chef Vinney this daily special should really be something to check out. :smooth:

Great news! I'm especially pleased about the return of a daily chef's special. That's very good to hear.

I've actually enjoyed the "dessert shots", though. :teeth:

I hope Chef Mark's back holds out so we can enjoy his creations.

OK. That does it. Now I have to plan a trip to Universal for the Warm, gooey, chocolate banana cake!!! YUMMMMMM! :Pinkbounc

That gooey banana cake may make me try Mythos again!! :teeth:

Soooo disappointed last time, and those tiny desserts - what are they all about?! :confused3

I asked about that and was told that most people that ate at MYTHOS were both full after the entree and in a hurry to get back to doing the theme park riding thing. The test tube desserts were designed to be lower priced, immediate service, and just a bit of sweet before returning to the rides.

I know that i either had the soup and entree, or the entree and dessert, because all three with the portion size is just too much. :smooth:

Dessert usually won out because one thing MIB9's loves almost as much as the ride is his desserts!!!

I like the idea of the dessert shots because I can't resist when they have tortilla soup...and I really like just a little smackerel of something sweet, so I rarely, if ever, order dessert anywhere....of course, if MIB9's is with me, I will because I know he will help me! :teeth:

I think they should offer some of both as it seems they might be considering now with the addition of the banana  gooey cake again. :thumbsup2

Mythos also has a brand new manager, the beautiful and very capable Shannon-someone I had the pleasure of working with at Confisco for almost two years.

And to add-both Vinny and Mark are excellent chefs who take a ton of pride in what they present. Mythos is a winner no matter who's running the kitchen.

I do wish they would decide on a manager and leave them in place for a while. Michael, the asst manager has been thru i believe 3 or 4 main managers. i wish they would just let him have the job, he knows all the in's and out's and he works well with all the staff as far as i have seen.

The Rissoto Sunday was citrus/ horseradish infused scallops with a wasabe rissoto. Just a hint of each flavor and it did not set your mouth on fire. :smooth:

Wow! My mouth is watering. That sounds so good. I've had scallops at Mythos before, but not done like that!

I'd have to agree with you regarding the changing of managers, which was one of my biggest complaints. A very capable and dedicated manager was taken from my venue while I was at Confisco. He was placed in another unit, but was so disenfranchised he wound up leaving the company. Universal's loss in a huge way. He was replaced with another manager who was very friendly and customer-oriented, yet wasn't as in tune with the behind the scenes business aspect of the restaurant. This manager was moved in roughly nine months to another location, which I believe was his sixth location in as many years. *sigh*

Michael was a good guy and a capable manager who obviously loves Mythos. Shannon is working with him now, and she is a real talent.

I think it is interesting when they bring over a manager from Enchanted Oak. What a culture shift that poor person has to go thru. Definately not in Kansas any more Toto. :sad2:

My guess is you're talking about the manager who was there in between Theresa and Eric. I actually thought she did a good job and would have been very good at Mythos. The head honchos, in their infinite wisdom, replaced her with someone from Citywalk. He lasted only a few months and was then gone. The carousel of management in the last three years has been staggering.
