Hope that some DIS 'ers here who are familiar with Mystic CT area

can help out recommending some casual dining spots for good seafood, etc.

We're a large groups of parents & kids heading there for dance competition.

Should we go to Mystic Pizza ?

Many thanks for your suggestions :goodvibes

Mystic Pizza has great pizza, but it is small. I wouldn't plan to go there with a large group, unless you were going to do take out.

Thanks for your reply :) We will keep that in mind; we thought it might

be good idea to get some take-out one night & having it poolside so the

kids can relax and swim. Sometimes too much scheduling gets to be

too stressful & then a wait to be seated at restaurant, etc.

I have never had Mystic Pizza- however I live in CT and have NEVER heard anything good about it, which is why I never tried it.

I would recommend Lenny and Joe's Fish Tale for seafood.

http://ljfishtale.com/page/2683-Home - it is a little drive down Rt1. Check out the T-Shirt gallery- Its cute, you could submit your kids if you get T-Shirts and live far away.

And Pepes New Haven for Pizza- you will have to wait in line for this pizza unless you get take out.

Also- New Deal Steak Place on Rt 1 has great steaks. They also have an incredibly cheap Happy Hour menu in the Tap Room- there are plenty of seats at tables away from the bar.

All of these places are a bit down Rt 1 from Mystic- I can't think of anything good in Mystic. I'm sure there are places, but I don't know of them. Rt 1 is a pretty drive- mostly scenic.

I was at Mystic last week and we ate at Ten Clams in the Mystic Village. It was not bad and everthing was under 10.00. My husband got a heart stopping 1lb burger. I got a green salad with lobster on it came with two delicious biscuits that you could put lobster in it and make delicious sandwiches.

I would recommend the S&P Oyster Company. I would consider it "casual" in that you can walk in with shorts and a t-shirt. Compared to a "regular" fish 'n chips type place (not that there is anything wrong with one of those - I love those too, just don't have any recommendations for Mystic :goodvibes) ~ it's more on the expensive side. They have inside & outside dining during the summer months.

Just reread your msg. "We're a large groups of parents & kids heading there for dance competition" and I'm thinking that S&P probably isn't the type of place you're looking for.

Thanks for these suggestions everyone :goodvibes

We just like to try avoiding Applebee's, etc. if we can - not that there is
anything wrong with places like that but we've all done enough of them !

We may have to split our group up if we decide on smaller locations or

maybe get it to-go.

Will let you know how it goes :-)

Abbotts Lobster in the Rough in Noank, as a PP suggested is a great choice if you enjoy seafood
There is no fried food and it is BYOB. The setting is beautiful - can eat out side at picnic tables
We highly recommend it!

I would recommend Abbotts too. Costello's is good as well.

I like Go fish (sushi) which is casual but pricy.

Not a big fan of Ten Clams, it was just ok.

There is a really good clam shack on Greenmanville Ave (the main road that Mystic Seaport is on) they have good seafood too. The name escapes me but it's on the river side of the road between Mystic Seaport and Olde Mystic Village (where 10 clams is)

I know the clam shack you are talking about, the name escapes me too, but it is very very good, we have been there a few times. It doesn't look like much, but the food is very good! they have picnic tables along the river.

there is also the Sea Swirl for drive up fried seafood. its pretty good too.

Abbotts in Noank is fantastic and there's Costello's right up the street for fried. We try to make a pilgrimage to Abbotts once a year because we love that place so much. Not cheap but the seafood is fantastic and the atmosphere is heaven. We hit the package store up the street for beer & have lobster on the dock. You'll see people that have brought tablecloths & wine glasses along with them, too, but my husband has fond memories of informal lobster with his mom. Watch for seagulls, and keep an eye out for the HUGE striped bass underneath the dock. They eat oyster crackers so you can truly feed the fish (my son loves this :)). The last time we were there the coal burning boat from the seaport came chugging by. We've only done Mystic as a day trip but I would love to spend a few days exploring.

Have fun!
