Mystery at Sea

I thought I might as well type below what is stated in today’s version of the newspaper on the Mystery at Sea webpage:

Disney Magic®

Mystery Deepens!

March 15 – 21°18’N, 157° 50’W
– More murky waters in the strange Disney Magic® case. Previous reports that the liner was spotted have since been proven false by authorities. And despite worldwide efforts, the ship still remains at large. Adding more to the puzzle, another broken Morse code message was received late last night. Authorities confounded by the mysterious messages have turned to the public for help.

Hey, gang, it sounds like the Disney Cruise Line is now turning to the kind folks of the Dis website to define what happens next: “Authorities confounded by the mysterious messages have turned to the public for help.”

So, gang, since the Disney Cruise Line folks are reading this message board, give them some clues as to what their next move should be. ;)

Since my fellow Dis'ers have shared lots of ports in this thread, I'm going with the "Around the World" cruise idea. That would cover, I believe, all the ports of call that have been mentioned so far (and then some). ;)

I would love to have the cruise come to Europe !! Hey...that would be soo neat to celebrate the 15th anniversary of DLP !! So I say NY then London and hopefully Le Havre, or Marseilles to start with !!

Wish it was alreally the 21 th !!

Boy, I keep thinking about that nursery rhyme, "Sing a Song of Sixpence," and am still very worried about the Disney Cruise Line and these coded messages. I have a sudden need to go to that link that Hygiene99 gave a few posts ago. pirate:

I just listened to it and that is what it says, "locked in with the count"

Here is a bit of plot summary from The Count of Monte Cristo

While in prison, Dantès meets Abbé Faria, an Italian priest and intellectual, who has been jailed for his political views. Faria teaches Dantès history, science, philosophy, and languages, turning him into a well-educated man. Faria also bequeaths to Dantès a large treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo, and he tells him how to find it should he ever escape. When Faria dies, Dantès hides himself in the abbé’s shroud, thinking that he will be buried and then dig his way out. Instead, Dantès is thrown into the sea, and is able to cut himself loose and swim to freedom.

Dantès travels to Monte Cristo and finds Faria’s enormous treasure. He considers his fortune a gift from God, given to him for the sole purpose of rewarding those who have tried to help him and, more important, punishing those who have hurt him. Disguising himself as an Italian priest who answers to the name of Abbé Busoni, he travels back to Marseilles and visits Caderousse, who is now struggling to make a living as an innkeeper. From Caderousse he learns the details of the plot to frame him. In addition, Dantès learns that his father has died of grief in his absence and that Mercédès has married Fernand Mondego. Most frustrating, he learns that both Danglars and Mondego have become rich and powerful and are living happily in Paris. As a reward for this information, and for Caderousse’s apparent regret over the part he played in Dantès’s downfall, Dantès gives Caderousse a valuable diamond. Before leaving Marseilles, Dantès anonymously saves Morrel from financial ruin.

Pirates, treasure and a European connection.

the alaska coordinates were for Mount Edgecombe in Alaska which was named for a place in Plymouth England.

I'm assuming that the Hawaii coordinates also refer to something else if we could figure out what exactly is indicated by those coordinates.

But where did New York go and where did Wales come from?

On the map it shows Feb 27: New York, March 8: Castaway Cay, March 13: Amsterdam, March 15: Honolulu. The text at the bottom also shows March 10: Alaska.

Oooooo, first post ever! Greetings from the UK :wave2: Been lurking for months but decided it was time to join in the fun with this little mystery :) It's been keeping my family and i amused for days now, so here are our thoughts... (oh and thank you to the many disboarders who translated the Morse Code :goodvibes )

We came to the same conclusion as others for two of the clues:

The Queen just loves the Pizza: Naples. Apparently it was at the Palace of Capodimonte near Naples that Queen Margerita was presented with her first Pizza...

Locked in with the Count: Marseilles. As already mentioned by a previous poster, possibly a reference to the Count of Monte Cristo, who was imprisoned on the island of Chateau d'If, opposite Marseilles.

But we had some other ideas about the other two clues...

Hot lava has gone to the birds: We thought perhaps this pointed to Sicily? The Greek playright Aristophenes wrote a play called The Birds about the failed Greek expedition to Sicily in 413BC, and Sicily has a Volcano- Mount Etna

Enjoying the Pigeons and the Embrace: This is a long shot, but perhaps Barcelona? It could be a reference to Picasso's paintings, many of which had pigeons and doves in them, and he also painted one called The Embrace, which we think might be housed in a museum in Barcelona...

We did assume that the clues would have something to do with the Med though, so we could be wrong. What do you guys think?

Butterbear - WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (OK, so you were lurking....but welcome anyway!) :yay:

my map shows 52,22 N and 4.53 E which is not Wales, but the coast of the Netherlands , very close to Amsterdam .... they keep us busy...

I can't help to think that maybe the numbers in the watch is some sort of clue. Why are only 6,7,8, and 9 shown?

Notice that the map and text for March 13 disagree?

52° 22'N, 4° 53'W - somewhere between Ireland and England
52° 22'N, 4° 53'E - Amsterdam

March 21st is the 80th day of the year (except leap year). It is the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and first day of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Does that relate to any of the clues?

Assuming the clues are related to Jules Verne and his books and these Disney Movies: Around the World in 80 days, In Search of the Castaways, and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, this is how I sum up my guess:

Disney Magic will sail the Med in summer 2007.

To celebrate Disney Cruise Line’s 10th anniversary in 2008, Disney presents its 3rd ship to sail around Europe and to destinations around the world in Extraordinary Voyages (a series by Jules Verne). The new ship is being built in Amsterdam or somewhere in Scandinavia (maybe Aker Finnyard?)

The new ship, Disney Nautilus, will be designed and commanded by Captain Nemo. It’s 2 hulls and parts are being built to order in Le Creusot, London, Liverpool, Glasgow, Paris, Prussia (Krupp), Motala (Sweden), New York, etc. Then the pieces will be assembled by Captain Nemo’s men on a deserted island…….. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am going to do my best at a short summary of what has gone on on these 4 pages.

Quote from MouseSavers dot com:

2007 Special Cruise Itineraries

There will definitely be special itineraries on the Disney Magic between 5/12/07 and 9/1/07. No official announcement has been made, but there are strong indications that Disney Cruise Line will be doing Mediterranean itineraries in summer 2007. The itineraries will be officially announced on March 21. Rumored itineraries and dates:

5/12/07-5/26/07- Repositioning cruise from Port Canaveral to Europe (there is speculation that ports on this sailing will include Castaway Cay, New York and London)
5/26/07-8/18/07 - Alternating 10-night and 11-night cruises (visiting France and Italy)
8/18/07-9/1/07 - Repositioning cruise from Europe to Port Canaveral
If you want to book one of the special itinerary Summer 2007 cruises on the Disney Magic, be aware that Disney is no longer taking waiting list requests for those sailings. Beginning 3/28/06, Disney Cruise Line will begin processing the requests that have already been taken, in the order they were received. Guests (or their travel agents) will be contacted as each request is processed to let them know they have cleared the waitlist, at which time their cruise will be reserved and a confirmation issued. This will continue through 4/3/06.
