Myspace and another Attack child

I think parents simply need to be involved in what their kids are doing and not expect the television/internet/schools/or anyone other than them to raise their children.

Well. now they're saying, not MySpace or internet related at all. They caught the guy...26 year old sex offender.

Figures...:rolleyes1

How about NOT HAVING 26yo SEX OFFENDERS LOOSE in our country?
I think that would be a good start to solving this problem.

The man lived in the neighborhood and it apparently was a random attack. He had two prior sex offense arrests, one just at the beginning of this month, if I heard the news report correctly. Sad for that boy. He must have been terrified.

The problem is that some people, especially folks in the media, seem to be very quick to try to tag big companies with fault because they have deeper pockets, because they're popular targets for sensationalistic mud-slinging, because they feel frustrated that the true at-fault entity cannot be punished enough to make up for the transgression (so they try to find a Whipping Boy to catch the overflow aggression), etc. It's a form of journalistic dishonesty to try to redirect fault onto a faultless party, just to serve some emotional, vindictive or opportunistic motive.

I do have to say I totally agree. It is getting to the point that nearly every night I hear about people blaming the internet, online games, movies, video games, TV, music, ect ect for anything bad that happens. It seems that the media outlets have gotten to the point that they will try and pin it on one of these things instead of the real issues. This is just one case where the attention went straight to Myspace instead of the full facts (though for once they came out later and were reported correctly). It's not the first time with Myspace either and it won't be the last, even though rarely is it truely an issue with things such as Myspace.

Sorry, this is a hot topic for me... just one of those things that make me want to scream!

Absolutely. The media, and as a result people in general, tend to love taking cheap shots at big institutions. It seems like a maniacal fascination with the David and Goliath scenario, except the problem is that Goliath, in these cases, isn't an attacking army, but an institution looking simply to provide products or services in accordance with their charter and the laws of the land. Yet, they're treated, as a rule, by some, as attacking barbarians. :confused3

I agree too. Companies simply offer a product and while they should be wise in how they offer that item and to who, they are ultimately not responsible for the well-being of their customers if that item is misused.
