I was noticing some great deals to Myrtle Beach. We've never been. Would like to know if Myrtle Beach is a nice plan for a vacation? It will be just me and DH. What fun things can we do? Is Myrtle Beach similar to Ft. Lauderdale, FL? We've been to Ft. Lauderdale before and really enjoyed it. Is Myrtle Beach just as nice or Ft. Lauderdale better?

Haven't been to Ft. Lauderdale so I can't compare but have vacationed in North Myrtle Beach. Ft. Lauderdale seems like it would be more of an adult beach with lots of night life.

Myrtle and North Myrtle IMO have more of a family vibe. Myrtle Beach itself reminds me of Daytona a little. Has all the usual beach stuff, bars, putt-putt, amusement parks, restaurants and there are Ripley's attractions that are along the strip that you can walk to.

With North Myrtle there's a lot of condos and you are driving everywhere you want to go. Lots of nightclubs, bars, shopping and outlet complexes, golfing, dinner theatre, shows, restaurants, etc..

We love Myrtle and vacation there every other year. You definately wouldn't be at a loss for things to do both adult and family oriented but when I think of Ft. Lauderdale I think more of an upscale, adult atmosphere (and again, I haven't been there so I don't know) and if you're looking for that type of atmosphere, you might be disappointed. If you're not specifically looking for that but just a nice beach vacation, you'll like Myrtle. Hope that helps.

I don't think it's a lot like Ft Lauderdale, but it's a great place to go!! We love it! There is a lot to do even for adults, especially over by the boardwalk. I love to go to Myrtle Waves ( a large water park) and I'm 41 so I would say that is even a great place to go for adults.

Yes you will need a rental car at Myrtle Beach. Depending on where you are staying you can walk to a few things, but you will be very limited. We always walk down to the pavillion area but we drive to most of the restaurants and to Broadway on the Beach complex.

I just scored a Priceline deal of 50.00 for a 3 star hotel. I hope that is good. How are the beaches? Is the sand nice and not to shelly (tons of shells that hurt your feet).

Myrtle Beach is a great place. There is lot's to do with kids or without them. There is about 14 (I think) miles of sandy beach, many quality places to eat, many places to shop, many venues of entertainment. (I accidentally got to watch the South Carolina Shag Dance Championships at a night club.) There are high quality shows as well.

A car is a necessity though unless you plan on just going to a beach front hotel and vegging out. The strip is reminiscent of any beach front resort you have ever been to on the east coast. If you've seen one, you've seen them all, but it is usually clean and safe.

If golfing is a part of the plan, well over 100 golf courses within a 24 mile radius ought to get your attention, everything from par 3's to championship caliber courses.

With a car, day trips are possible as well. It's a 90 mile drive to Charleston, SC from Myrtle Beach. There you have, amongst other things, a aircraft carrier that can be explored or you can take a ferry ride out to Fort Sumter, if you are into history.

One thing...if you are in a club on Saturday night keep your eye on the clock because at midnight all drinks disappear from your table. Pre-purchase doesn't cut any ice. The Sunday blue laws prohibit drinking and it is, or at least was, strictly enforced. Now you see it...now it's gone.

That law has been removed, so you can drink until closing
