We just booked a week at the Dayton House property at Myrtle Beach. We are going by a bus tour leaving Toronto on Oct 14, traveling overnight and staying at the hotel until the 22nd for the overnight trip back.

Just DH (65) and myself (58) are going. Any must sees? Anything to be wary of? Looking forward to this hotel.
Website, of course, makes it look very nice. It has several pools, as well as a very small 'lazy river' pool too. Anyone stayed there? We took the one bedroom ocean front suite. Yahoo!

Thanks in advance.

We have really enjoyed the Legends in Concert show, it's a Vegas style show and have never been disappointed.

I have heard the show One is good but have never been, not a fan of country music

I am not familiar with the hotels as we rent a house.

Broadway at the Beach is a neat area for shopping and there are also a couple of outlet malls. Hard Rock Park just opened this year, we have not been so I don't know if it is worth a trip or not.

For dinner we really love Burro Loco for Mexican food, and Carolina Roadhouse has a large menu and the food was excellent, they are owned by the same company and you can see their menus here -http://centraarchy.com/restaurants.php

I plan to do this next summer, you can pet Tigers among other things, http://www.tigerfriends.com/. I don't know anyone that has done it so I don't know if it is worth the money or not but I would just love to pet a little tiger!

Of course there is the beach and tons and tons of golf. I would think the weather will be very nice, provided there are no hurricanes. Have a wonderful trip!

If you don't ind my asking, where do you find rental properties? We're looking at Myrtle Beach for next summer and would really like a house.

Just wanted to respond about Tigerfriends, we actually went this summer and yes it is very worth it, you get to spend alot of time with tigers, lions, monkeys, elephants and more, they don't allow you to take your own pics, but they do a wonderful job themselves and you can buy the pics, I highly rrecommend doing this.

We enjoy going to these places while in MB. We go about 2x a year

Legends in concert. It is really a good time.

Comedy Cabana. This place is awesome. Its a really nice comedy club. about $15pp and you have to buy a min of 2 drinks. but its worth it. usually they have 3 comidians. if you look in the coupon books they usually have one in there.

Broadway by the beach. Tons of shops, resturants, things to do. Its really a great time. we usually go there almost every night to eat and get a few drinks

the beach itself!

Hope I helped.

Wow! DIS ROCKS!! Thanks for the info guys. Tiger friends and Broadway on the Beach are definitely 'must sees' for us. (me, actually :rotfl: )
Legends I have seen at other resort towns, so it can go on the back burner for now. ONE seems interesting. Oh, He** ,I think I'll just print this all out and put it in my planner book. Thanks so much.!!

Sorry to hijack the thread but nice pic of Jake. Go panthers!!

Since you'll have a week, I'd consider a day trip to Pawley's Island, Charleston, or Brookgreen Gardens as well.

Also in MB, there is fabulous shopping: two Tanger Outlets and a couple of high end malls, plus numerous specialty stores.

There is the new Hard Rock theme park, although I've heard mixed reviews on that.

Kayak or canoe tours of the marshes are cool.

If you like Calabash style seafood, you can drive a little bit north to Calabash and have the real thing for dinner one night.

You can also fish in the gulf stream one day, if you like that.

Ok now i'll comment back on topic. There is a magazine you should pick up first thing. They are in just about all stores. It's called Sunny Days. It has so much stuff listed to do plus directions and coupons. I suggest doing the Ripley's Aquarium, Magiquest, and Alligator Adventure. Barefoot Landing has good restaurants also (House of Blues, Joe's Crab Shack, Johnny Rockets) Broadway has Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock, Nascar Cafe, plus alot more. Plenty of water parks too.

I always look first at vacation rentals by owner (VRBO). We have rented in several states from this site and have always been satisfied. We are also going to Myrtle Beach in summer 09 and are looking at the Sea Watch. Got top ratings from Trip Advisor.

We love the Dayton House!!!! It's older - the rooms are clean but not really fancy. Of course there are several buildings and we haven't stayed in the nicest one. But We like the location and the pools. And they have lounge chairs and tables on a grassy lawn area between the pools and the beach. So that's great - no getting all sandy all day.

The breakfast place across the parking lot from the hotel is not good. The one on the other side of the street from that restaurant is not very good either. Those are our only negatives. There is a Starbucks just down the street if you like coffee.

If you have any questions please let me know. We'll be out of town this weekend without internet access but will be back Sunday night.

A great resource for MB info is: www.funbeaches.com it has a forum section similar to DIS where you can post questions.

Must golf when in MB, have some great courses in the area

I was considering Sea Watch as well. I haven't been to Myrtle Beach in 15 years. My concern with staying at a resort like that is the crowd factor. I don't want to be fighting for my inch of sand, KWIM? Any idea how the beach situation is?
