Hi Guys: Last year I was debating between Virginnia Beach and Myrtle Beach. I ended up going to Virginia Beach and we loved it. We stayed at the Holiday Inn North per suggestions of people on this board. And We LOVED it. Thank you. So, this year we are planning on going to Myrtle Beach and I am in need of the same assistance. We would love oceanfront and we would like to be within walking distance of the busy part, but would love to be on the quieter end like in Virgininia Beach. We love to walk everywhere. We would love to hear of any suggestions of places to go. Thank you in advance. You guys are so helpful.

we use a friends condo at Myrtle Wood however its not on the beach. my brother just looked into the Roxanne. it is on the ocean and looks like its very near the boardwalk. you can get studio or one and two bedrooms. they actually look quite nice.

not sure when your going but with his dates it works out to $129 for a two bedroom. if you check trip advisor it is rated #7 out of #240 hotels in m.b.

have fun.

Been going to MB over 50 years. You will find that there is no quiet end of MB within walking distance of the busy part. You will need to drive to most of the things. I would NEVER stay in downtown MB very seedy looking now. Pick the quieter areas of Cherry Grove and NMB and drive. Many of the tourist things are not on the beach area but on the bypass road. Google or tripadvisor for what you would like to do and then check out directions. We are staying in Cherry Grove this year but like Long Bay and Dunes Village ( stay here each year for a huge March car show).

We like the cherry grove end of myrtle. The beach is alot less busy.

North Myrtle Beach or Cherry Grove sections would be my choice if I were to stay there.
Drive into MB to do things there. Don't miss the Aquarium and we really enjoyed Ripley's (hadn't been to one before and we enjoyed seeing what they had collected).

It seems like there is so much wear and tear on lodging in Myrtle Beach. A place that has acceptable cleanliness and furnishings one time isn't okay the next time I stay there. So, I have a hard time recommending a certain place in Myrtle Beach. I think that some of the lodging in areas of the northern part are possibly more maintained and that, in addition to the quiet, is why so many people recommend those places.

I have a special place in my heart for the pavilion area in Myrtle Beach but that has changed so much now. I still like to stay near the Family Kingdom amusement park with my kids and walk back and forth to my hotel. It's been a while since I've stayed in these places and, like I said, things can change quickly. But, I've stayed at Coral Beach, the Landmark, and the Sea Mist and was pretty satisfied. Once, I traveled with my parents and we stayed at the Compass Cove. My room was outdated and not the cleanest but their room was much nicer and very acceptable.

Broadway at the Beach is a lot of fun. My parents have a timeshare at the Sheraton Broadway Plantation Resort and enjoy it but it is not ocean front. I also like to visit the Market Common area.

To give you an idea of distances, Market Common and Broadway at the Beach are about 7.5 miles apart. We used to stay near the Family Kingdom and walk to the Pavilion which are 1.5 miles apart. Market Common and Barefoot Landing are about 17 miles apart.

That is my "hometown" but I spent my teen years two hours away. We always rented a house in Surfside for spring break and the summer. My aunt owns and rents condos in North Myrtle Beach area. My dad spent his younger days in the military at Myrtle Beach AFB working part time as a bell hop at the Yachtman. If you are staying longer than 3 days, I would suggest renting a house or a condo. There are some great hotel choices. It's a bit older but 10 years ago we stayed at the Sea Mist Resort with my brother's family, they also have a few cottages behind the resort which are okay. I use to say if we stayed at a hotel in the area again I would try Captain's Quarters (my kids were much younger) as I thought it would be great for the kids. I haven't looked at hotels in a while since we also have relatives within driving distance we often choose to stay with.

What is the difference between MB and North MB. Is it just one end from the other or is it a different place? I really want to be right on the beach and if need be drive to other places. I like to walk as much as possible. Can anyone name any hotels that are nice and right on the beach.

A couple of people mentioned Cherry Grove. What does that mean? Is it just part of myrtle beach?

I like to bei n the thick of it but maybe a little bit away but on the beach so we could have a little quieter part of the beach to hang around in but within walking distance of all restaurants and shops. Thx.

They are two different towns. Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. It's not like saying the North end of the beach because it is a different city limits. It use to be Myrtle Beach was the tourist area and North Myrtle Beach was a residential town. Vanna White is from North Myrtle Beach and her childhood home use to be open to the public. I am not sure if it still is. So when you hear the two towns, just know they are separate city limits, etc.

This link has an explanation: http://www.funbeaches.com/difference.html

PP is right - MBeach and NMBeach are 2 separate towns. Cherry Grove is yet another.

As to your last paragraph, the MBeach area is not really one where you can "have a little quieter part of the beach to hang around in but within walking distance of all restaurants and shops." The restaurants and shops are mainly in 3 different areas, all 3 of which are quite large. There isn't one spot with walking distance to a "quieter beach" and "all restaurants and shops". Not to say you can't find A resort on a quieter beach area and a couple restaurants within walking distance - you can! It just won't be near ALL the popular restaurants and shopping.
The NMBeach and Cherry Grove areas are going to be quieter beaches overall.
My favorite place we have stayed in the MBeach area was Hampton Inn & Suites Myrtle Beach/Oceanfront. Beautiful place.

Sea watch is our fave it is right before you start into North Myrtle

We stay at seawatch every year. We will be there in July.
It feels like it's private which I live.
I live in md and always went to ocean city md.
Now myrtle is my fav. Seawatch is so great. An they do great crafts everyday for the kids.

We like Embassy Suites at Kingston Plantation. It's set back from the road and very quiet. Plus the section of Myrtle Beach that its in we like better. Further south the hotels are right on the road and its hotel after hotel, chain restaurant after chain etc. We have stayed there 3 times! There is also a Hilton there and condos but we have always stayed at Embassy Suitees.

In May 2014 we stayed here for 3 nights in a ocean front room http://www.oceanreefmyrtlebeach.com/, it was quiet, the room was very clean, had a stove top and fridge. It was dated but the view was beautiful. The price was $65 per night. Right on the beach.

Then we stayed at the Sheraton Boardwalk Plantation away from the beach. Beautiful one bedroom two bath with full kitchen, living room and laundry, about 1500 square feet for $105 per night. The sheraton is beautiful but it is not on the beach. A must do is to visit the Myrtle Beach State Park when you drive in you can see live repitles and various creatures hanging out in the swampy areas along the road.

IMO The aquarium was over priced for what it was , $45 spent and we were done in 30 minutes.

We stay at Sandy Beach Resort. All rooms are ocean front (only a few are not). It is a nice family resort, away from the party madness that is in the main hub of MB. We use to live right outside of Charlotte, NC and have been going to MB for years.

Another vote for The Sandy Beach Resort. We always stay in a 3BR, 3BA in the Palmetto Tower and we love it.

We stayed at Camelot by the Sea which was within walking distance of lots of things, but it was still quiet enough that my little kids could sleep without any problems. We also stayed at Sand Dunes Resort in the fall and it was wonderful. Though it didn't seem to be one of those walk around town kind of locations.
