This may have been asked, but, are y'all calling the IT line or just the regular Disney line?

I have called IT, they can't really fix this nonsense. They say they can't delete the extra accounts. But they are able to set up new ones! That is how I ended up with more than I need or want.

If anyone calls and gets the advice to switch their account to a new email address. I would not recommend doing this. I played along and now have an account for both. Then I have a different account active with DVC. And my ESPN-Disney account is active (crazy). Stuff ends up in all four accounts.

I never intentionally set all this up this way. Every time I called IT I walked away with a new account instead of consolidating.

This past Wednesday I had an interesting yet unsettling conversation with a Cast Member regarding the My Disney Experience app on tthe phone and future reservations.

I had recieved an email from Disney announcing AP discounts for the fall. We already had a room only discount but I wanted to make sure I had the lowest room rate possible.

Anyway, as he was checking the new rate for me, he asked how I was enjoying Mohegan Sun? We had been staying there for a few nights and I was talking to him on my iphone, which has MDE app along with my ipad.

I asked how do you know I am at Mohegan Sun? He said I see from your app. I said you see it from my app? And he said yes, you are at the pool.

I said, you can tell I'm at the pool? He said, yes its a very nice pool with palm trees and big wall sconces.

At this point I was flabbergasted! I asked do you know everything I am doing? And he said basically, and once you get your magic band we will know ever more.

I was COMPLETELY shocked at this point! He then proceeded to tell me that if I had an XBox, Nintendo, etc that was connected to WiFi they will know what you are doing in your living room.

He told me the bands do not shut off once you leave the park and they (disney) will know where the band is at all times.

Now, I'm sure I agreed to this invasion of privacy some where, I'm pretty sure almost any app on one's devices allows the app provider of this sort of invasion but it doesn't stop me from questioning if I even want to be a part of this whole experience.

I do believe the CM was being truthful. How would he know I was at Mohegan Sun otherwise? I live 120 miles away from Mohegan Sun. How else would he know I was at the pool, which I was and that they have palm trees and fancy wall sconces, also true.

I can't believe I am the only one with real privacy concerns. My DH said why should I care I'm not doing anything wrong... But I told him that is not the problem. To me this is a total invasion of privacy and makes me understand why Disney invested a billion dollars into the concept. The amount of information Disney now has access to is mammoth! To say the least.

I would love to hear everyone elses thoughts on this....

No, you have 14 days to pay the 200.00 deposit after booking a reservation. http://allears.net/acc/resort.htm

But I did not know that the bands were not being shipped until 30 days from the reservation. So I guess it will not work. Thanks for the info.

I just read the article u posted and that's interesting because I've booked twice though WDTC and was told that I had to give the $200 in order to finish booking? Have the rules changed and that article is old or do u have to ask for it? Just curious?

My DH is a privacy officer and is gonna absolutely freak when I tell him this. That really is insane and quite scary to say the least. If that is true about the app... I'm not sure i want it anymore. :(

This isn't anything new. Lots of apps have the ability to pinpoint your location. I don't have "location" turned on for any app except for one on my apple devices.

Go to Settings. Tap Security. Tap Location Services. You will see a list of a couple dozen apps or more listed. For any apps that you don't want tracking your location - change to No.

Not sure if the is exactly correct, your phones are GPS enabled. That why gas buddy app can tell you where the cheapest gas stations are closest to you. Even if you turn off the GPS enabled settings it really doesn't matter. That's why in the movies the bad guys turn off the phones and take out the battery. This is accurate as the only real way to stop GPS tracking. I'm not trying to freak you out, just make u understand that it's not just Disney. A buddy of mine is in the army, I don't really know what he does but special security clearance bla bla bla and will not get a smart phone, I make jokes about companies even services a phone that looks like the old DOS system. His reasoning is everyone, including government tracks smart phones. He's not paranoid but he isn't suppose to have a smart phone so when he's doing things for his job, the enemy can't track him though his phone or later retaliate and track down his family. Sounds like something from movie, I know.

As far as the magic bands, the have a short signal RFID signal that reads when you touch the chips to the reader. They don't send a signal far enough for disney to read the info. And the only info the RFID has access is to your MDE account that you set up and give them the info. With that being said the MB also has a long range Bluetooth signal there are readers hidden in the park to track the crowds in areas. The plan is when a land gets to crowded to send surprise charters in other lands to spread some the crowds out to make your experience better. Now they might have other ideas besides a character to move crowds that was just an example. The app would alert people in the park of the surprise. How would the app know if your in the park, that's right GPS enabled. Disney doesn't care to track your every move outside if the park, they want you to have a better time so you come back.
I love my IPhone and can't wait to get a magic band. I don't get paranoid big brother is watching me, I work for data solution company, and accept everyone is always trying to compile data. You'll go crazy if you don't just accept it. You can't live in a tin foil room your whole life. And I don't do anything worth while that would make companies want to track me.

Educate your self on the system before you judge. Your right the bands do not turn off, you have to wait for battery's to die. But the disney infinity game is interactive with the bands and I'm sure that's just a preview of the things to come that disney has planned for the bands. It's your choice I just wanted you to realize disney isn't doing things that aren't being done by other companies already. If anything they are more upfront about it, and I think that's what is freaking people out! Lol

Sorry, but at least some of what the CM told you is crap.

If this story is in fact true (and sorry, but I have to take it with a very large grain of salt):

- If you were actively using the app (or it was running in the background), it makes use of your phone's GPS to know your location. The purpose of this is to know when you are at WDW and let you know what is nearby, etc. It is entirely possible that it reported to the Disney computers where you were at the time. However, I seriously doubt that a CM working on making reservations to guests could or should have access to that information. I also have doubts that it reports it down to descriptive locations, rather than just GPS coordinates.

If I am wrong, however, this needs to be followed up because I do believe this is an unacceptable level of privacy violation.

The follow-on comments also seem intended to freak people out:

- Having an XBox, Wii, or whatever connected to Wi-Fi means nothing. Wi-Fi is just a network connection. The statement is intended to scare you into thinking they are spying on you. Does Disney secretly have programs on all the different game consoles without you knowing? Sure, they'll know when you are playing Disney Infinity, since the game has network elements...

- The statement about the bands not turning off is actually true. They contain a battery and an "always on" transmitter. But all it does is transmit the bands ID number at very low power (so the battery lasts up to 2-3 years), so it can only be read from a relatively short distance (9-15 feet) without a big antenna and a very sensitive receiver. And then, all they'd know is that it is within range. IF you want to believe that they can do this, at best they'd know where in the house you are within 5 feet or so...and that assumes you are wearing your bands 24/7 while at home. I think most people are going to just toss them in a drawer until they are needed again.

We are definitely on the same page. I doubt he knew you were at a pool, unless he heard splashing and pool sounds in the back ground. You weren't on video chat and I seriously doubt he was looking up your coordinates on Google earth to be that specific. Maybe he was from he area a knew about where you were?

I think I finally got our fast passes finished for Sept.22

I had everything done (there are 13 of us) but then they opened up fast passes for the Princess meets so I HAD to set one up to meet Rapunzel!

I wish you could pick the times you wanted. I know they give you different options, but I wish it would give you times for each one and then you picked the times from there. Does that make sense?

Maybe you can give me some advice on a similar situation. Me and my DM are both renting points but my reservation is one day longer but can't go so we want to switch the names on the reservation so she has a longer stay. Both reservation numbers are already linked to our own mde. If I change names in the reservations can I delete the old reservation and add the other or will I have the problems you mentioned?

Most of the comments in this statement are pure fiction. Ether the CM was trying to "scare" you, or you are trying to "scare" others.

I am SO lost in all this!! I admit that I am somewhat of a Luddite, and refer to myself as techno-stupid, but there is so much here that I just don't understand anymore! Is it possible to just go to Disney, put a theme park pass through a turnstyle, and tour the park, getting paper fastpasses for specific return times, and then getting another paper FP either when the original expires or after a specific number of hours? I am trying to understand what everyone is trying to do here, but all I read is about lost reservations, multiple accounts, incomplete information, and Disney creeping on you long after you have left the parks. There's part of me that thinks "you reap what you sow," but to each his own. I just want to know if I can have my "normal" Disney vacation anymore, or do I have to become part of the madness (which will certainly reflect upon future vacation venues!)?

(And FWIW, I don't have cell phones, GPS, internet at home, WIFI, smart phone, tablets, etc... starting to feel glad about that, not loving the "big brother" vibe i am getting!)

Is it possible to just go to Disney, put a theme park pass through a turnstyle, and tour the park, getting paper fastpasses for specific return times, and then getting another paper FP either when the original expires or after a specific number of hours?

Is it possible? Right now, yes. By the Spring? Who knows? All of this stuff is in a testing phase right now, and no one, not even the CMs, really knows what the final version will look like.

I'm pretty sure they'll keep some type of plastic card as an option for people who can't or won't wear a band. You'll likely have to tap that card on a reader rather than swiping or inserting it into a turnstile or card reader. You may have to deal with electronic fastpasses, but I'm sure there will be an option eventually to book those by phone or have Guest Services do it once you get there, similar to the way you can make ADRs yourself online or call or go to Guest Services.

Will things change from the way they used to be? Yes. But things have changed before and we've mostly made the leap to a new way of doing things.

I am trying to understand what everyone is trying to do here, but all I read is about lost reservations, multiple accounts, incomplete information, and Disney creeping on you long after you have left the parks.

This is the most important point to remember. THIS is the main thread that people will go to with problems regarding the new system. So of course, there are going to be lots of confused, frustrated people here who are having a lot of trouble. (Again, it's all still in testing, so it's not surprising that there are troubles.).

Personally, the new system has worked fine for me so far. Then again, we've got a small travel party (just me & DH, who doesn't have his own account and isn't trying to do any of the planning) and aren't doing the dining plan or a split stay, and we bought our tickets through Disney. And I've seen lots of trip reports and comments in other threads from people who also aren't having problems. They just aren't posting here, because they don't have any pressing need to...this thread has turned into Problems Central, so there are very few posts that aren't problems (or the answers to those problems).

Try not to worry too much. My recommendation? If you don't have a trip planned in the near future, and are thus trying to make this all work, skip reading this thread. Wait and read the next generation of it closer to your trip, when there are a lot fewer problems and a lot more answers. :fingerscrossed:

Currently the November Fastpass+ have not actually been loaded fully so there aren't many choices (4 in Hollywood Studios, 6 in EPCOT 5 in Animal Kingdom approx) so once they are fully loaded this will hopefully change. Assuming that BLT is included in November as so far only up to the 31st October has been announced then if you linked your pass would would be able to make Fastpass + for yourself only in advance. You can still do Magic Bands and then once you have the passes can look to book Fastpass+ for the entire trip as you can book them on the day. As said though, currently there has been no announcement about what is happening in November

If FP+ is live in November for your trip, you will need to have added the tickets prior to making FP+ reservations.

Thanks both. I guess, if we're included in the test, I'll have to either wait until we're there to book or see if my parents will reserve them beforehand. Thanks again.
