My Zenni optical order--Update post 14

I just got my $8 pair today (ordered 7/5) and I'm THRILLED!!
They actually look nicer than the current ones I paid over $150 for.

They are really cute and I can see perfectly. I'm definately going to be ordering a few more pairs. Oh and these don't have philips screws, they are straight.

Thanks to whoever it was who mentioned Zenni!

I ordered mine on 7/5 and I haven't gotten mine yet. :sad1:

Maybe I'll can get mine tomorrow.

My Drs office would not give out the PD#. I wanted to order my DD a pair of sunglasses.. I spent $270 on her regular glasses (Coach brand for a 6yr old.. not sure what we were thinking.. but she's had them for 3 years so far.) Anyway, they had no problem giving me the script, but when I asked for the PD they said that would make them liable if there were any problems? How is that different from giving me the other #s? :confused3 I know we can measure it fairly well, but I was not happy.

Technically everything in your folder is your business and you could ask for a copy of your folder to take to your next dr. (they can charge you $1 to $5. per page though so I'm not sure I'd do it). For DD her folder was just on the counter when they were writing out the script and I took the number down and noted it--it was off by three from what I measured--similiar to what others have mentioned!

With all due respect, that is not entirley true. I have quite expensive Italian frames that have phillips screws. The type of screw alone does not denote a level of quality. Small phillips head screwdrivers are widely available, and I have never had a problem getting my frames adjusted professionally at locations I did nto purchase them at.

DH and I jsut dispelled that to him as well--see, DH's glasses have phillips head screws as well! He didn't have an answer just shrugged. I should know better than to trust my relatives!:lmao:

Anyone have a high prescription and ordered the thinner lenses?? I am thinking about the 1.61 high index, but my prescription is pretty high.....

I must have a freakishly small head, but Zenni optical does not carry too many frames with a temple arm length below 135!! I have a pair of 135 and they are even a little big.
I'm a little dissapointed.

I ordered two pair of Zenni glasses for my daughter. I placed the order on July 4th and hoped they would be here when we left for Disney on the 20th. I knew that was just under 2 weeks and with the holiday, it was a longshot. On Friday, July11th I called Zenni to ask if they knew when they were to be shipped. The man was very friendly, but said that they weren't scheduled to be shipped until July 19th. He suggested I have someone mail them to me while we were on vacation. I told him that she had glasses already and that the Zenni glasses were just an extra pair and a pair of sunglasses and it wasn't necessary to have them shipped to us at Disney.

Well, imagine my surprise when I got the mail on Monday, July 14th and there was a package from Zenni. I am not sure what happened because they apparently had not been shipped on Friday morning. I think the gentleman I spoke too put them at the top of the list and got them shipped. Who knows? I was very pleasantly surprised and we are extremely happy with the glasses. She wants to order a couple of new pair for when school starts and for that price, I will probably do it. I am telling all of my friends and family about Zenni. What a great thing! Thanks Budget Board friends for bringing Zenni to my attention.

Thanks for all the great info in this post - I just ordered my first two pairs. One pair of progressives with A/R coating, and one pair of single vision tinted (sunglasses). I'll let you know how they came out when they come in. Can't beat the price - less than $62 dollars for both pairs including shipping. That's less than a quarter of the price I paid for just one pair that I'm wearing now - and I can't even see through these - the coating didn't adhere to the high index lenses, so I'm waiting for a decision from the lab manager on replacement lenses. My prescription has changed slightly, so I ordered the new script from Zenni - but I'll certainly take a new set of lenses on my old frames in the old script - I can still see through them.

BTW - the pupillary distance was not written on my script, but when I called the doctor - they gave it to me right away, even giving me the breakdown per eye (65 mm total, 32 right, 33 left) No hassle at all.

I placed an order this morning. One pair of regular glasses and one pair of sunglasses. One pair is memory titanium. Both pairs with shipping was under $40. I didn't upgrade the lenses, but got the anti reflective coating on the non sunglass pair. All measurements were within 2mm of what I currently wear, so everything should fit.

For those that asked how you measure, if you currently wear glasses and they are comfy, or you find a pair you like at a store. Take note of the numbers on the inside of the temple, there should be a series of #'s like, 49 20 142. Those are three key measurements on glasses (lens width, bridge width and temple arm length)

Sweet! You are correct. Mine were close to the numbers I tried to measure. I keep getting eye infections and have been banned from contacts after being an avid wearer for 13 years. :sad2: I was wanting to order some sunglasses for our upcoming trip in case I do not get the all clear at my next appt.

I ordered 50% tint, I wasn't sure I wanted to go 80%. If I like the quality of what I get, I'll probably order transition lenses in the future.

Got ours last week. I really like mine, and my daughter loves hers, too. I will definitely be ordering more after I get my new (ugh) progressive lenses in a few months.

I just bought 8 pairs for DH and myself.6 of them were sunglasses and 2 were regular with anti-reflective.We paid $133 with shipping.I can't wait to get them.
It beats the $150 each we paid for sunglasses last year to use up our flex-spending account. These are for our Disney trip.If we lose them they are no more expensive then regular sunglasses.:cool1:

I ordered ours this afternoon. Total for 3 pair is less than half what I paid for my CHEAP pair last year.
I love the idea of being able to buy them and swap them out with outfits, my daughter is going to love that. My son wants a pair of harry potter style ones now too... wish he'd said something 45 minutes ago, I could have ordered 4!

You might be able too add to the order. Call the # provided in your confirmation. Have the item/stock # of the frames he wants and his RX info. Provide it to them over the phone and you may be able to add to the order. If you only ordered this PM, the order may not have been processed yet.

After reading all the positive posts about Zenni, I decided to jump in. As a first time buyer, even with the DIS recommendations, I still had my doubts. So I ordered the cheapest pair in a style I liked. I wear bifocals, so with $8 frames, the added cost of the bifocal, and shipping, my total cost was $29.95. It took three weeks to the day, and the glasses arrived yesterday. I am VERY PLEASED! The prescription is perfect, and even the $8 frames are much more substantial quality that I had hoped for. I will definitely be ordering again and again. At these prices I can afford to have an eye glasses "wardrobe"!

Please excuse my ignorance about this! :flower3: If I go to an eye doctor and get an exam, will he write my prescription down and give it to me? Then I can order the Zenni's? TIA! :)

Yep. Just ask the Dr. for a copy of your prescription. He/She may omit the PD measurement, make sure to ask for it. Or it is quite easy to have someone measure it for you. Zenni has an area on their website that will help you dechiper the RX. The hardest part is picking out frames that are the right size for you.

Thank you! :goodvibes
