Well, today was interesting!!
Several neighborhoods around here were having neighborhood yard sales. DW decided she wanted to check out some of the sales in hopes of finding some "Trading Spaces"-like deals.
She's gone yard sale shopping in the past, but I really haven't. Oh, we checked out some a couple of years ago, but nothing major. So this morning we got up at 6:15, I headed for Chik-Fil-A for breakfast, and we were out to see what we could find.
We found a couple of items that Lauri is going to attempt to work into redecorating, and it was interesting to see some items people had out -- typewriters, an old salon-like hair dryer that looked like one my mother had years ago, and an OOOOLLLLLDDDD wood radio from probably the 1940s. And we kept running into one guy looking for old Atari and Nintendo games.
The topper had to be the next to last house we stopped at. They had quite a few items out and some large furniture items like bookcases. They also had this ceramic owl with marble eyes that were bulging (and almost falling) out of their sockets, and a figure of a laughing donkey with big teeth. But the thing that really stood out?
Black velvet nude paintings
Yes, that's paintingS, as in more than one. Three, in fact. I'm trying to think of how to describe the style of the artwork -- not a realistic style, maybe close to anime or manga but not quite there either. Still ... they were black velvet nudes!! Lauri said she had to bite her lip to keep from laughing, and I had to hold back some laughter and comments myself, which we shared once in the car.
Kinda makes you wonder what their neighbors think of them before and now after the yard sale.
