If there is a place to hook up his laptop in the room? I am hoping the answer will be "no", but I am sure my husband is not the only one wanting to know the answer to this - We own our own business and my hubbie has a hard time letting go for a couple of days!

Thanks!

Karen :D

I do not think that there is internet access in the rooms. They do have an internet café on deck 3 next to the promenade lounge, so he can keep in touch, if need be.

Thanks - I am sure he won't be checking in much, but I know he would check in more if he could in our room -

Thanks for letting me know!

Karen

no, there is no internet access in the room, although theoretically he could get online using the in room phone (but that costs something like $7.00 a minute)...
there is an internet cafe, but unless he has a hotmail or something similar, it's not much use for staying in touch...
i found the cruise to be wonderful in terms of my husbands inability to be connected...
he is normally connected 24 hours a day 365 days of the year...online and beeper and cellphone...always on.....everywhere (i won't go into lurid details, but yes, even then and yes he answers.....)

we brought 3 laptops on board with us, since we were in the middle of a 6 week vacation - vacation for us, work for him....as long as he has his laptops and cellphone he can work anywhere....EXCEPT on the ship....oh joy.......it was 3 days of bliss....it was a forced vacation for him......even he enjoyed being out of contact....once the withdrawal pangs passed....
(of course that's why we chose july 4th weekend.....less going on at the time....but his offices in the far east were still open....there's always someone working somewhere in the world....but the cruise put him out of their reach for 3 whole days....possibly the best part of the whole experience)...

Oh my gosh - you mean there is another one like my husband!

Sounds too good to be true, but you've lifted my spirits knowing my husband will be cut off from the real world. WAHOOOO!!

We own our own business, and my husband has wonderful people he can trust to take care of things - He just has a hard time letting go - I'll just get a couple drinks down his neck and he'll be fine!

Thanks for your info!

yes, it's also his company.....i can't imagine anyone working that way for anyone else...
and he too has good people but that cellphone of his is always on and always ringing....any time of day or night (not to mention the beeper)......
well the great thing about a ship at sea......no cellphone reception.....this was the longest time we've ever gone not hearing that phone of his ringing....
3 whole days without calls......
how do you spell heaven?????

My husband always has his phone on as well - Rings anytime of day or night - even when we are on date night!!!

Bless him for wanting to work so hard to provide for our family, but there should be some boundaries - and I think the Disney Cruise has helped set up those boundaries!!!!!!!

Oh I can't wait - 5 days of a ringless phone!

Karen:D

have a great time!!!
(i just hope they don't call you on the ship phone.....there is that phone in your room.....but it's very very expensive, so maybe that will be a deterent.....no one called us on it ....well....we didn't give out the phone number....)

anyway...i'll say it again....have a wonderful, phoneless good time!!!!!!!!!

No laptop is one of the things I am looking forward to the most! I truly appreciate how hard he works but it worries me that he never just relaxes. I found myself calling the laptop "The Mistress" until I realized people over hearing the conversatoin might not understand. "Can you believe he took the mistress along of our vacation...." Now if the internet lounge would just close for a week.

SweetSpot.....
too funny.....the mistress....yup....kinda the way i feel too.....
i feel guilty about feeling that way....after all, his workaholism is what provides us with these to die for vacations....but still.....
anyway....thanks for the laugh!!!!!

I'm the one in the family who has to remain "connected" for work. Cell phone, pager, email, the whole thing. I have to start NOW clearing everything from my calendar for my cruise in December. I had to agree to remain connected while at WDW, but I explained to them that I would not be reachable on the ship. They can try email, I may or may not decide to check it while on board (we all know the answer to that one, don't we? But I had to agree to let them email me.) I will have to check in at the first possible moment when I return to Florida from the ship.

But for those four nights while I'm on the ship, I don't care what kind of budget crisis develops, what vendor doesn't get paid or what service can't be rendered during that time. Of course, I miss checking in here, but all of you understand what it's like to be away!

Beth

Looking forward to four nights without phone calls!

that's how i used to be at work.....that is, until i had a 2 day stint in the hospital.....a highly recommended eye-opening experience that resulted in a lot of soul-searching that can be summed up in one line: 'when you have one foot in the grave no one has ever regretted not having spent more time at work'.....

words to live by.....in any case, i turned over a new leaf....rearranged my priorities......and quit.......the place i work begged me to stay....so i said, "well....sure.....if you agree to my terms".......the terms boiled down to 2 months vacation a year.....they said yes.....so i said yes......and if they ever go back on their word i'll be out of there....in the long run, companies have no heart and the day you leave is the day they'll forget your name.....the only thing that counts in this world are friends and family.....

I'm actually struggling through this issue right now. A big chunk of my "extra" income that pays for our vacations comes from teaching online classes. Because of the necessity to select a date that works in and around so many other commitments it turns out our cruise will be smack in the middle of my late spring online term! I didn't want to turn it down and put all year at risk, and I also don't want to leave my students in limbo for a week. I've lined up a ghost sub (hey the students can't see you online!)

So we will be taking the unlimited internet package - and sharing with teenage children - but only TWO people will know I am actually connected. The colleague who will be ghosting for me in the class and my academic dean. They are both very level headed and won't contact me unless it is really critical - and then it will be to the point. Otherwise they will just handle whatever comes up and tell me about it afterwards!

My kids are growing up too fast and we are relatively sure this is probably the last chance we're going to get for this type of vacation with the kids as college is looming! So I think I can live with this arrangement.
