Yes, you read right . . .I punched the poor old guy right in his gut. Not on purpose mind you, but on quick reflex . . .he was working on my impacted tooth and I was starting to get this pain and WHAM there went my fist into the guy's stomach . . .I ended up having so much novacaine on the right side of my mouth that my lip on that side is still numb . . .I think he kept shooting me up because he didn't want me to punch him again.

The procedure itself was something I never want to experience again in my life . . .Even though I had the headphones on and was listening to good ole Rod Stewart I still heard everything that was going on . . .My teeth were like being pryed out by a crowbar . . .I felt so much pressure I thought my jaw was going to break . . .I guess I should of coughed up the $300 and gotten put out for it . . .but with out WDW trip coming I couldn't afford to do that . . .so I suffered . . .

I got my antibiotics and he gave me a prescription for perks, but I'm not taking those, just ibuprofen is working fine . . .I believe I will go to work tomorrow . . .I'll have to see how I am when I wake up . . .I have my follow-up next week to remove the stitches, hopefully they won't come undone. I don't want any strings hanging around in my mouth . . .

Thanks for the PD!!

Way to go slugger!!!!! :teeth:

You should've paid the extra $$ to be put out!!! :teeth:

That's what I did when I had mine removed many years ago.
Felt nothing, remember nothing!! :)

Hope you feel well in the AM!!! :)

I'm glad it's over. I bet the dentist is too. lol

You punched the guy? Hey, I'm sure he deserved it. ;) I'm glad that you're done with it.

After the punch, I'm sure he wished he had paid the $300 for you to be put out! ;) Glad it's over for you!

Glad you survived!!!!!! I also recently in February had my 4 wisdom teeth removed, plus 4 premolar teeth (extractions I needed for braces), and also stayed awake for the whole thing!!!!! It was weird feeling that 'crowbar' and hearing the drill! I saved about $350 by staying awake, so I used the money to upgrade to a deluxe (AKL) on my last trip.

One thing though - this is depressing but I guess I'll mention it - keep an eye on the lip that is still numb. I had the same thing - my right side lip and chin remained numb after feeling came back to the rest of my face. It turned out I had nerve damage, which can happen with wisdom teeth removal. My lip and chin remained numb for about six weeks, then feeling came back. I still have slight numbness in my lip, which may or may not heal totally. But I knew it was a risk, since my teeth were really screwed up.

OK, I'll stop being depressing now!!!!! I hope you'll be just fine!! Think about your upcoming trip to cheer you up!!!!! :) :) :)

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I was knocked out for 3 of my wisdom teeth. My dentist pulled the last one a couple years ago. I must have a super dentist (I know I do) - I didn't even know that the tooth was out. I didn't even believe him until he showed it to me. :)

I used to be terrified of dentists until I started going to this one. He's the only dentist who has never hurt me, and he pulled the tooth, did more than one root canal and several fillings.

Disnee Dad Says.........................................Sounds familiar, but did it take three hours to complete? It took 2:15 hours to get out the first two teeth, and he asks do you want to do the other two another time! I said ugh, ugh, which meant I'm going to die anyway so lets get this over with! The other two only took a little over a half hour so I made the right choice.
And I took all the percidan/vicadan/happydan, whatever it was.

Oh my - I bet you did get quite a dose of novacaine after that!

My DS (13) has to have 4 molars removed prior to braces - his mouth is simply too small for all his adult teeth. We discussed having the dentist do the pulling or going to an oral surgeon so DS could be knocked out - we all opted for the oral surgeon! As soon as school is out in a couple weeks DS is heading to the doc - I'm sure it will be an interesting experience!

HEE-HEE-HEE...... maybe the DDS thought you said you'll have HIM knocked out for the proceedure instead of you.I think you have lived out the wish of a few people here....no offense to any in the dental profession...I am sorry went through such a rough time, but if it's any consolation, I DID pay to be knocked out and woke up anyway! Talk about feeling like you wasted your $$$. Apparently I have roots that like to twist and turn, and they were causing things to take longer than expected. I hope your recovery continues to go well....you will forget about it all soon enough when at WDW!

I agree.. keep an eye on the numbness, I had all four wisdom teeth pulled about 10 years ago and I never regained any feeling in the left lower side of my lip, I have gotten used to it, but it is a weird feeling.

i have 2 words for you guys:

NITROUS OXIDE

It's cheaper than being knocked out. You are awake and soooo pleasantly high that you just don't care.

The last time I had a tooth pulled (which I find extremely traumatic) I had the oxide for the first time. I was telling my friend about it and she asked me where I went. I told her I just closed my eyes and went to WDW. She MEANT where was the office!!

I hope you recuperate nicely!

one more reason I'm glad I was born without wisdom teeth. Yay! My mom was, too. Hoping Daniel won't have them. My dh on the other hand still has all of his, and the dentist wants them out. We shall see!

Glad its all done for you!

I have threatened doctors in the past, "you hurt me, I hurt you back," but I never actually had to take a swing. Whoo Hoo for you!

Glad it's over for you!

UGH, I remember when I had my Wisdom teeth removed. I was knocked out, thank God. I remember the swelling afterwards was bad. DD then 2 was afraid of me :( It was scary for me too, I've never even had a cavity. Glad it's over for you and your poor Dr.:D

Glad everything went okay for you, even if you did belt the Dr. .....hmmmmm......could you come over to our office next time you need a tooth extracted? I would pay good money for you to give one to the gut to one of our doc's once in a while. He can be a real you know what some days  BTW we use dissolving stitches in our office so they don't need to be removed, although sometimes a knot will hang there and not go anywhere and freak people out so they come in and have it snipped. I'll also go in on the advice be careful of the numbness. I've seen people come back two days later with Bell's Palsy like symptoms and have to have neurological studies done. It's definitely something to be watchful of.

I had mine pulled about 9 years ago and had the happy gas. I was technically awake, but don't remember anything until the very end. I remember coming back around and feeling some tugging. The nurse said, "well hello, giggles". She said I laughed through the entire thing. When my mom came to get me in recovery I was still giggling and couldn't stop. She asked if I was ok, and then heard me laughing.

You mentioned the stitches.....Ooooh, mine came loose and I remember looking in the bathroom mirror and tugging on the string. OMG, was that a mistake. The room went fuzzy and things were swirling and I had to roll along the wall out the door and around the corner to my bed. I just fell forward and passed out. The one and only time in my life that I've passed out.......

Sorry that you had such a horrible time, but I couldn't help but laugh when I read that you punched the guy, lol. Hope you feel better soon.
