My WDW germ plan... just thought I would share..

Maybe instead of jumping to conclusions you should research the scientific data before responding. HA.. that was a good one too !

You know I was trying to be nice in my response and was until I got up this AM and saw this!!!!!

Anyone who is spouting off the garbage that is tried to be passed off as true that you were should not use this statement! How about it? Would you like to start researching some scientific data? Because what you listed
as true is about as true as having ocean front property in Arizona. It was good for giving my DD a good laugh yesterday though. So lets see some hard scientific data that spraying oils will kill a virus. Wow wonder why they are keeping this little fact a secret? (that is being sarcastic in case you thought it was a legit question) Try taking a basic Biology class and them getting back to us.

On your other rant, rose oil will give me an instant severe headache.

Also, if these oils claim to kill germs but also build up your immune system, someone is messing with you - exposure to germs is how your immune system gets built up!

I was thinking the same thing, but I am in no way an expert on this. My friends and I would always laugh when one of the kiddos would pick up something off the floor and mouth it before we could get it away from them. "Oh well.... at least they're building up their immune system."

I agree with the others. If you feel you must, bring some Lysol to wipe down the door knobs, remote, phone, etc, and really stress and practice good hand washing while you're there. That really is the best thing. If you really need to, you could even bring wipes to wipe down the handles/cross bars on the rides.

Go and have fun. Take precautions, but don't let the fear of picking up germs overwhelm you and distract you from your vacation.

People can research and find data to support just about anything, but that doesn't necessarily make it true..:goodvibes

If what you are saying does happen to be true, why aren't well qualified, legitimate primary care physicians suggesting that people do this? There is one doctor my DD sees who practices both eastern and western medicine and even that doctor has never suggested such a thing..:confused3

I say get the vaccinations, go, and have a great time! :)

Having grown up in a household with a SEVERE asthmatic who also has SEVERE allergies I am more sensitive to Asthma and allergies than the average person. Which is exactly why I choose to use essential oils.

Allergies to airborne essential oils is uncommon.. where as allergies to let's say... the detergent used to shampoo carpets, or the chemicals used to clean draperies.. and your worried about what someone uses to clean the air in the room? I suppose your going to ban families who bring in pet dander? Or the lady who used the room before you that used a gallon of perfume.

Normally I do not give flamed responses the time of day.. but in this case I am going to.. because some of these responses had me rolling on the floor.. especailly the cleaning comment. I did not realize that I stated I was going to have a Crisco party and smear the room with oil ? Oh wait.. the air ventilation system... do you really believe that hotel has a quality ventilation system and that they use quality filters in the vacum cleaners?

Use Lysol !!! Sure...let's use the one spray that sets off many people. More people are allergic to Lysol and bleach than you think! Not only that but Lysol will ruin a surface. If you don't believe me.. ask anyone working in an office how Lysol has ruined the displays on their phones !

You asked for opinions and got them..No need to be rude or snarky. When you post on a public forum you get a lot of responses, some of which you don't like.I was trying to be nice in my response, as were others..Perhaps maybe you need a dose of pixie dust, and maybe next time don't post if you don't want to hear responses or opinions:goodvibes I for one, get a huge migraine from lavendar, teatree and rose oil scents

I agree.

Too many people don't seem to realize that they are more or less borrowing the rooms that they sleep in. When you use anything sented the scent doesn't magically vanish the day you check out. That includes candles, oils, and cleaners. Some people (like me!) simply can't handle sleeping in a room that has those kinds of scents in them.

Wipe stuff down with an antibacterial wipe if you need to. But please do not use anything scented to spray around the room, or any kind of oil that will leave residue behind.

here's my suggestion to the OP... get method brand wipes (they sell them in target)... they are all natural and use essential oils so you're happy... they don't disseminate into every other room on the corridor nor linger for days so other guests are happy...

i thought i was being proactive in using the method brand cleaners, going natural and all that jazz... only to learn that they were the cause of my migraines...

so, for the sake of those of us that are allergic, please think twice before "polluting" our rooms too... and for the sake of your family, find a happy medium, which i think the method wipes will be! :)

No, she did NOT ask for opinions..she simply shared her plan of action to deal with germs on her Disney vacation...and got pounced on, which is way too common for this place. She even nicely stated "just wanted to share"..in case anyone was interested.

This is not directed at you, but it is your statement that I am quoting because it is a very common statement on the boards "When you post on a public forum you get a lot of responses, some of which you don't like." This is crap. It's nothing more than a politically correct excuse to take out your PMS on perfect strangers and act like a jerk to them on a public message board. It seems to be the same people usually who just really get off on getting all heated and mean spirited about every topic..even the most sensitive of topics.

I'm noticing as I read, it *really* gets me when it's the ones with bible verses and God quotes in their signatures.

I was referred here for trip planning to Disney, and it's difficult to scroll through all the garbage. Some threads you can tell from the topic to skip, but not all.

I am beginning to honestly feel, that if you are wanting to go do Disney, and are trying to crunch the numbers to make it happen..just visit DisBoards..they can get in you in a bad enough mood and out of the Disney spirit in a flash and you'll put off the trip till next year..;)

I think when people post most of them realize they will get some sort of response. And the posts were all well meaning and polite until the OP started snapping at those who didn't agree with her method of room cleaning. I don't see where anyone is wrong to inform the OP that using oils or other smelly things could set off an allergic reaction in others. The OP didn't need to get snarky and attack those who pointed out that fact and were just trying to help inform her.

totally off topic, but may i ask "WHY?" :confused3

I'm sorry, what I meant was that sometimes the ones that like to argue the most or seem to have the most mean spirited tone in the replies, in some of these discussions, have such a signature that quotes scripture and God..and it's just hypocritical.

I wasn't trying to say that every reply to the OP was horrible, but there are some that just seem to be typical of many of their contributions in whatever thread they are contributing to.

:) Thanks.

Back on topic, I think using essential oils in a nebulizer is absolutely useless, a waste of money and time. And "building up my immunity" is an exercise in futility.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: I plan to wash my hands often. And I keep them away from my face as much as possible. That's it.

I think that is the very best defense there is to avoid the flu. Wash wash wash the hands!

you've been on the disboards a month... you have six posts... are you really in any position to judge many posters' "contributions?!" :rolleyes1

p.s. i don't think arguing and Christianity are mutually exclusive...

Actually handwashing is a limited defence since a huge part of influenza is that it's spread through droplet transmission. I've read several studies over the past few days (Harvard, CDC and Mayo Clinic, I think?), in which they discuss how much of H1N1 and influenza in general is spread through droplet transmission.

Washing hands is key for so many things, influenza included, but it is not the very best defense against the flu according to so many experts due to the ability for droplets to transmit the virus very quickly and very rapidly. Does it mean you shouldn't wash hands? Absolutely not...scientists are just reminding people of this as people are getting a false sense of security in terms of the whole hand sanitizer thing. Sneezes and coughs can project droplets several feet!

Just something for people to think about as everyone is going nuts with hand sanitizer - if you walk through someone's cough or sneeze, no amount of hand sanitizer is going to protect you at all.:thumbsup2

I'll see if I can find those studies in which they discuss just how much of influenza is transmitted through droplets.

1) my number of posts is irrelevant. I can read

2) It doesn't take more than a month..or more than a week for that matter, of reading to see patterns

3) I've been here for over a year.

Hoping everyone planning their Disney trip this season has a happy, healthy time at the happiest place on earth!

Well I have God in my signature because I do think my children are a gift. That doesn't mean I don't think some things are simply ridiculous. Believing in God doesn't make you Mother Theresa. On that note.
Peace be with you!:cutie:
