I realize this was not the best of the pin events held so far this year. I have tried to be objective and comment on the good and the not so good. I would hope that anyone that replies to this thread would also try to keep things upbeat and make any criticism constructive. It was a new venue for a pin event and like anything there are going to be bugs to work out.
This was only my 3rd pin event and my first one in 2002 so I really did not know what to expect. I arrived at 3:40 and found a line headed up the stairs. Never went up and explored where the line went to. (I have never been to WWoS before) For all I know it could have lead straight to Hades! It sure was HOT enough! Now I have come to assoicate pins with lines so this did not seem abnormal to me. Most people in line were saying this was the slowest moving line yet. I would have to disagree as the slowest moving line I've been in was at the Hat for the NYD and Cogsworth pins. Eventually I got my pins, went down, bought more pins, and started in on my map. The cast members were all very friendly and helpful, even the ones that had to stand outside in the heat! After completeing the map we headed in to get our hot dog and soda then went up and checked out the new pins coming out (YES!!! Lots of Villains!) and then tried to do a little trading. Between the noise from the fans they were using to try to cool things off and the announcer for the game it was difficult to talk to other traders. After a couple of trades we were all still hungry so we headed over to the All Star Cafe, part of the package include a 20% off coupon for the entire table, a nice plus, and ate a very nice dinner. We then went outside and traded a little mor. Then seeing as we had no interest in the baseball game and there was nothing else to do there we all headed over to the Polynesian.
I would give the event a C-. I think the CMs did all they could to make this a decent event. I do think that WWoS, although familiar with handling sporting events of every kind, was not fully prepared for pin traders. The biggest mistake IMO was not having other things to do if you were not in to the baseball game. If there had been a few other activities and/ or entertainment going on this would have been a big plus. Also if the pin trading area was in the hallway of the gymnasium next door we probably would have stayed there and traded instead of heading over to the Poly. I realize the gym was rented out but the hallways were empty and would have been great for trading. A few more CMs checking people in would also have helped. I hope that if there is an event at the WWoS next year they add some more things to do and learn from some of the things that did not work out so well this time.
