Hello Out There From Disney Land,

My apologies for not having posted since after the New Year, BUT I've been very busy with this crazy little thing called Life--including, but not limited to, preparing for a week from tonight when my Mom will be having Vascular Surgery--her 2nd--in Savannah, Georgia, at 7 A.M. ET Wednesday Morning, January 29, and spending a week from tonight recuperating in the Hospital from the said surgery, during which time I'll be holding down the fort at home alone while my Dad accompanies her and spends the night with her, and as a family, we could use all the Prayers in the world sent for next week's event.

With THAT out of the way, on another, more lighter note, I'd like to discuss one of my favorite Genres of TV Programming: Game Shows.

Growing up in my hometown an Hour from Savannah, I've always considered myself as long as I can remember a life-long Avid Game Show Watcher, even playing various Gametek NES Video Game Adaptations on Nintendo NES, Sega Genesis, and Playstation One among others of "Wheel of Jeopardy!" (my personal in-joke name for my fav current TV Game Shows "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" due to both shows being created by the same man, former TV talk-show host Merv Griffin); I also enjoy watching every Sunday night on my local Savannah TV station WJCL-TV by way of the ABC Television Network Prime-Time Network TV's Longest-Running Game Show in Prime-Time Currently in its 35th Combined Season with current host Alfonso Ribeiro--you guessed it: "America's Funniest Home Videos."

tbh I've always, even as a young-un, enjoyed the unique concept of "America's Funniest Home Videos" as a Game Show, with 3 Contestants per show every Sunday night competing against each other for a weekly Grand Prize of $10,000 ($20,000 as of 2022) by sending in their funniest moments ever caught on film, with the weekly Grand Prize winners competing against each other for an additional $100,000 Grand Prize every 3 months (twice yearly in recent years since the show's 2001 revival).

A Spin-Off Game Show, "America's Funniest People," was quickly created after Vin Di Bona realized soon after it debuted that MANY of the initial potential Contestants submitted set-up clips as opposed to spontaneous and unrehearsed moments caught on film.

I also enjoy, as far as Game Shows are concerned, the Classics like "Match Game," "Pyramid," "Family Feud" and more, and my apologies for posting a bit too soon earlier before I was ready--my cat did so before I was ready.

Flip side... not owned by a network but for rent by city stations... anyhow great interactive show from the lazy boy recliner

Best wishes for your mom next week. She'll do great. Prayers said for mom.

I would have to say that my favorite game show would have to be Wheel Of Fortune because if I was playing it as a contestant I would do pretty well and there's something about Wheel Of Fortune that excites you everytime you watch it and it's a game show that you never ever get tired of watching because Wheel Of Fortune is loads of fun to watch. My least favorite game show I would have to say would be Family Feud because why it's still surviving i'll never figure out? Because the show is not meant for children or families because the surveys are adult oriented and how Steve Harvey got to host Family Feud i'll never understand. My other favorite game shows are Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Press Your Luck because they are fun to watch especially when Press Your Luck has the famous whammies but it's really cool to watch. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire I liked because I used to have a crush on Chris Harrison and would watch it each morning just to see Chris and the gameplay was excellent as well. Why today's game shows are so different I can't figure out because if you watch today's game shows they lack the charm of the old game shows that were classics
Great job on this thread Mike keep up the good work

Wheel is my favorite ever! I wasn’t sure about this year, because I love Pat Sejak, but Ryan Seacrest is doing a great job! We enjoyed Jeopardy as well, but stopped watching during last season- aka the year of tournaments. I don’t love Ken Jennings as host, nothing in particular except that Alex Trebek was just so special.

America Says is a favorite and we’ll put Game Show Network on here and there. I like John Michael Higgins as a host. We watch Weakest Link and Password when they come around for a new season. Ellen’s Game of Games was wacky and fun.

I like some better than others. I dislike the newest revival of Hollywood Squares for the same reason I didn't like the older version. The focus of the show seems more about the 9 celebrities who are competing against each other as to who can make the funniest or most vulgar remarks. Many of their comments make the show not suitable for family viewing. The contestants answering the questions seems like a trivial part of the show and too much focus is put on the celebrities.

R. Seacrest tries too hard to be overly enthusiastic about the contestants and the prizes on Wheel of Fortune. P. Sejak was more low key and a better host in my view. K. Jennings is doing a fine job hosting Jeopardy, although I don't think the host needs to be a prior expert contestant, you are mostly just reading the questions.

I think the best game show hosts are the ones who blend into the background and don't try to make themselves the center of attention. Shows where you can play along or try to answer the questions I think do a better job of building a following and keeping people interested. Some of the other shows mentioned previously I don't consider 'game shows' but more along the lines of entertainment, but to each their own.

Never liked Weakest Link because it seems mostly about the host trying to belittle the contestants. I don't find that making fun of contestants as my idea of good entertainment. Raid the Cage is another fairly new show that seems pointless. Contestants run around grabbing prizes before the timer runs out.

I am a The Price is Right die-hard forever! I grew up watching Bob Barker. The best thing about stayin home sick from school was being albe to watcht the Price. I've always wanted to be on the show, or at least attend a taping. Maybe someday I will "Come on down!"
