DH is a saltaholic.......he would salt salt if he could. (Yes, I know that that is extremely bad........we have had many discussions on that!)

Anyway.......the only thing I literally put salt in or on are my mashed potatoes, french fries and rutabaga. Now garlic salt.....I put in all of my Italian dishes. :)

We cut salt out about 12 years ago when hubby got sick. We very rarely add salt to anything now. A hard boiled egg, mashed potatoes and fries come to mind. We barely eat fries though.

The only other times we have meals with salt is when we order food or eat out - then we end up drinking a few glasses of water.

If we’re talking about salting the food after it’s been cooked and served, then never. Of course food gets salted during the preparation process...unless you have some sort of special medical condition, that’s basically Cooking 101, lol. But I don’t use a lot.

Apples 🍎 and melon 🍉.
Fries 🍟.
Tomatoes 🍅 and popcorn 🍿.
That’s really all I can think 🤔 of.... most other foods I black pepper quite liberally.
Oh, traditional Margaritas 🍹, claro!

I grew up in a salt free house and don't salt anything, even when cooking as someone mentioned above. My DH and kids will add salt to anything I cook. I do use it in baking recipes like pies etc, but not when making dinner.

Hard boiled eggs.
Steak, for some reason, no matter how good (and just a little).

That's it. I see a lot of responses for fries. I've never had a french fry come unsalted so never added salt.

My granny was much like your husband with the salt. She lived till 94 and was never sick a day in her life.

I'll add salt when cooking if a recipe lists it, but don't usually use the whole amount (except baked goods). When I am cooking without recipes, I rarely add salt. If I'm making soup I'll ask DH to taste it and decide if it needs salt.

As far as adding salt to already cooked food? Steak, popcorn, sometimes fried eggs. That's about it.

Most of my salt comes from what's already in things I buy, not putting it on afterward at home.

I salt the water a little when I boil pasta, substitute "lite salt" when baking, and use Mrs. Dash (or similar) on veggies, eggs, etc.

I do have butter and salt on popcorn if I get it at the movies, but we usually just have candy instead.
