1. I agree -- use the character meals (esp. breakfasts) to meet and greet. This avoids the long lines while in the park.
2. My kids favorite tip -- we packed dry clothes and small towels for my two boys (then 5 and 8) to use when we were in Epcot. Then, they were able to play (really play) and get soaking wet in the fun interactive fountains. It was a good kid-break in this more grown-up park. I watched them have fun while my wife, niece and oldest daughter went shopping. There were many kids walking past saying, "___, can I go play in the water" and their parents said no. After about 25 minutes, we got them dried off and we continued on our day.
3. Plan a day to hang out and do what the kids want to do, play in the pool, get their hair braided at the resort, play in the sand, get ice cream at Beaches and Cream, etc.
-- tons more, but you only said one. --
