First off, I have to say so many thanks for all of you who encouraged me to rent an ECV and especially to get one the whole trip from an offsite vendor. I used Care and they were awesome. I actually added on to my stay as I decided I would keep it for the four days that I was there alone with my kids which I didn't intend to do originally.

I think it helped a lot that we went during a very low time. (Last ten days of Jan.) The busses were rarely crowded. I did have to wait quite awhile when leaving AK to get to BCV as there were three scooters ahead of me and hte first bus that came only held one. Thankfully that was while DH was still there, so they just went ahead and got ready to go swimming while I waited. Interestingly, the drivers NEVER had my family board the bus at the same time as I did until the last driver we encountered. Even when it was just me and the kids they would have them wait in the line. Again, this was not a crowded time so that might be why. I just found that interesting after all the uproar you read about.

As for getting around the parks, it was so wonderful having the scooter. I would get off to stand in lines and such but between times, would ride along as my family walked. THis was a tremendous help. I did not take the ECV the day we went to Disney Quest and I was SO tired afterward! It really brought home to me that I no way would have been able to do the parks on my own. The pain and fatigue from my MS would have simply ruled the entire trip.

Driving it was SO much easier than I expected! Oh my goodness, that was just a joy to find out. It just goes right where you want to and the speed is really easy to control. I have to say it's a darn good thing they stop suddenly. Not necessarily for my family who often almost ran into me from behind, but for the myriad other guests who decided to walk right in front of me. I had a really funny encounter with a family who had a child in an adaptive wheel chair. They cut right in front of me, and both the parents were so appalled at what they had done. They kept apologizing and apologizing. I said I was sure it happened to them much more than they were the cause and to not worry. They were just so cute!

I do have to say, we did not like being confined to the Disney transportation system. That is much more about us and our touring style than it is about the ECV. We have decided that next trip we will stay offsite and rent from Randy's so they can come and show us how to take it apart and we'll be able to go in our own van.

The last day, the kids and I had a hilarious driver. When getting me off the bus, it was the kind with the lift ramp and he was teasing the kids that I was on the "Endless Wheelchair Lift of Terror" and kept going up and down not letting me off. That is actually one of their favorite memories of the trip. :rotfl:

Any questions from others nervous about this, please let me know. It really was so easy and made the trip enjoyable for all of us.

Again, bless you all for sharing your info and experience with me. It mde such a huge difference in my confidence level before the trip!:grouphug:

I'm glad you had such a great trip! I am also glad that it wasn't me on the Endless Wheelchair Lift of Terror. I can't even do the Tower of Terror, let alone an Endless one. LOL

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for your 10 days? DH has always just rented from Disney, but the prices are so insane. Was it a good deal cost wise? Thanks! :thumbsup2

For your knowledge for the future - if it is crowded, they HAVE to at least let minor children board with you, and really should let your DH on with you and the kids too.

Just so you know, they can't separate you from your children!

I believe it was a total of $320. I did the first week for $200 and the additional 4 days were $30 each, I think. If I had reserved the whole time, I know they say on their website that the second week is $100.

I so wish that happens to my hubby one of these days with the lift of terror. That's a hoot.

It may help you to know the portable travel scooters all work basically the same. They will break up apart usually into 4 or 5 pieces. I highly recommend the Pride to go elite scooters for car purposes. They're among the lightest ones around and very easy to take apart.

You may have a local area medical store that handles this scooter and they can show you how to take it apart. This is what we did the first time.

Also, you may want to consider purchasing one. They really are quite reasonable. This may open up a whole new world to you.

I am so glad the ECV helped you have a great trip. Thank you for posting your postive story about renting an ECV. :thumbsup2
