My other thread got locked, so here's my report. I hope this thread will help searchers in the future who had the same issue as I had.
Some of you may recall I inquired whether, and how, it would be possible to make the 7:30 am Sunday mass at Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine and then make it to rope drop at Hollywood Studios. Due to my wife's good thinking, I don't know the answer to that because we changed our plans to Blizzard Beach (10am opening) on Sunday.
Anyway, here's what I learned:
1. There was a cab waiting outside the VWL at 7am, available to take anyone.
2. However, I had called Mears at 6:30 am, and had one waiting for me (van) at 7am. I received a text at 6:50 saying one had been dispatched.
3. Arrived at church at 7:15. Fare was $28.20 plus tip. Driver took most efficient route (I had Google maps open during the trip to make sure). I asked him if he would return at 8:15, and he said there was no need because there's a cab stand after mass with lots of cabs.
4. Mass was crowded. It started at 7:35 with a 5-7 minute introduction by the priest about the history of the shrine, including a request for donations because it doesn't have parishioners (it's not a "church" in the traditional sense, but a shrine).
5. Mass ended about 8:25. We stayed the whole time. If we left right after communion, we would have been out at 8:15.
6. For the return trip, we recognized a family we saw in the lobby of VWL, so we asked them if they wanted to share a cab. They were glad to do so, which which was nice to split the $25.80 (plus tip) fare on the way back. (And we had a nice conversation about football.)
7. There were plenty of cabs outside the church ready to ferry folks back to resorts. I don't think there's any need to reserve a cab for the return trip. There seemed to be plenty of supply.
8. So, to answer my original question, I think making a 9am rope drop at HS would have been easily doable, especially if we left after communion at 8:15.
Thanks for everyone's tips and advice, and I hope this thread helps others in the future.
