My Tip: Emergency Ponchos

I just had to say that "emergency" ponchos rock! Arrived at WDW two days before Hurricane Wilma. Sunday night (the night before the storm), the weather was very nice - warm, no breeze, just perfect. Went inside Maelstrom at Epcot. In the 15 minutes we were inside the building, the weather changed from "nice and pleasant" to "torrential downpour!" Luckily, I had tucked an emergency poncho into my fanny pack (the 79-cent Target kind). Those in our party who didn't have them had to buy the Disney ponchos (I think they cost about $7 each) - for larger families, that would really add up!

The emergency ponchos are great; they take up very little room, and would be easy to slip into a fanny pack, backpack, purse or even a pocket. Plus, they're virtually disposable! I had brought several, and was glad I didn't have to try to fold down the larger Disney poncho to re-use later. I just tossed my cheap one in the trash when I was done, and put another one in my fanny pack for the next day. I highly recommend them!

I can't agree more! We had a couple showers last week and we just pulled out our Target ponchos. We brought a Ziploc bag to store them in so that we could reuse (I didn't bring extras). Also, since the weather was cool (60s), they came in really handy at AK when we were on Kali River Rapids (twice!) Even though the water poured in, we left the ride almost dry.

We always have our ponchos. We have a set for each park with water rides(IOA and WDW). After we use them, we offer them to someone in line. Several years ago someone offered their ponchos to my DD and me- this was great as it was a breezy January day. Ever since then, I try to repay this kind deed.

I had also taken some Dollar Tree ponchos with us on our last trip, and they sure came in handy at MGM one day. After the rain had stopped we threw them away. Now I'm wondering how many rain ponchos per person I should take for the four of us?

I also bought some ponchos and I also got some dollar store flat umbrellas. We used them a lot (we have a stroller so we can store them) Our last day we passed them on to someone in line at the park as we left. They are cheaply made and we lost one or two to wind but they do help!

Are those ponchos still available at Wal-mart and Target even in December? We have two left over from June and I haven't checked the stores yet.

Walmart usually has them year round, but look in the sporting goods section, not with the umberellas and purses. Don't ask the employees, because they don't know :)

I also saw the hand warmers, thought I might buy a pack to use at the night time events for christmas, just in case it turned chilly :)

WDW for Christmas!

They are available in the camping section all year round!

At all of the dollar stores in our area(PA) we can buy two packs of adult or childrens for only $1.00 so I bought two packs of each and now I'm ready. :cheer2:

I was so glad to see my Target had Coleman ponchos for $.89!!!! I bought green and red ones for our trip this weekend!

But truely....I hope we don't have to use them!
