My thoughts on the Elizabeth Smart story

First THANK GOD this child was found and returned to her family!

I know it is our nature to be curious and want to know what happened to this child during her ordeal - we feel we know her - cried tears of joy when she was found!

Best case scenario the child was forced to stay with these"people" at times so close to here home she heard her uncle calling her name - The mental anguish that this torment must have caused this child

Worse case scenerio - Let your mind wonder - There is such unspeakable horrors that she might have endured - She will need to speak to someone - Professionals that will help her deal with whatever she has gone through and with the love and support of her family she will come to terms with whatever has happened to her.

But it is none of the publics business! She does not need the media spotlight on her and her family - She and her family need time to heal! When I hear that Hollywwood is already trying to get her story for a movie - it angers me!

I could not agree more, I know we are all curious what why and how this happened but let her heal and move on with her life. She was given a second chance, her and her family will handle it, just by seeing all that has gone on then will overcome all this in time.

She lost her life for 9 months. And I'm sure the rest of her family did barely more than exist.

I pray she gets some resemblence of a normal one back very soon.

I have had some of these same thoughts. As much as we all want to "know" all the details I feel that it's going to make her chance at any semblance of a normal life impossible. She will also have this following her around, but just adding the details will make it much worse. My best to the Smart family.

I am hoping that we never know. It is none of our business. None.

I've heard some reporters say we need to know so we can educate our children better on how to handle abduction situations, etc. I think that's just a ploy for information and trying to hide the fact that they just want to know out of curiousity.

Reporters don't want to know out of curiousity, they want to find out whatever shocking news they can that will increase their ratings.

DH and I were screaming at the TV last night when some of the talking heads were discussing whether or not she was sexually abused. It is NONE of our business. I can't believe just this once, that they can't put themselves in the Smart family's place. If it were their daughter, would they want that kind of thing talked about all over the airwaves? I hope the media is listening and leaves them alone for awhile.
