So...I don't know if you know, but I am running/walking in the 1/2 marathon on the 10th (the day before my birthday). I am doing it to honor my dad, Donald. He was diagnosed with Leukemia in August 07 and he is doing great! He's been in remission for a while now and he's going to WDW too...well, since the race is called the Donald Duck Half-Marathon and one of the philanthropies is the Leukemia Society, I felt I should do the race...(nothing wrong with that...and I wanted to be in WDW for my birthday...). So in February I signed up and started to train. Since then I've had shin splints a lot, but I've lost 25 pounds and dropped 2 jeans sizes. I actually enjoy running... Yes, I did just type that...I enjoy running. It is peaceful. Of course, the sweating and heavy breathing leave a lot to be desired, but that too is getting better. :)

So, I wanted to come up with a shirt design that honored my dad without being too cheesy...because heaven forbid I am cheesy...that never happens....:rolleyes1 So, here is my design...do you guys think it is ok?
I think this will be on the back? maybe with my name?? I haven't decided yet.

THis may go on the front as a small design, like a left pocket idea... again, I haven't decided...

Mickster,

What a wonderful way and place to celebrate your father's fight against cancer. And good for you for training so delingently for the half marathon!

My hairdresser is also doing the half marathon. Did you know that friends at home can track your progress during the race? I will be having text messages sent to me to let me know how she is doing. Since I can't be there in person, at least I feel I can cheer her on this way.

What a great way for you to honor your Dad and you found something you enjoy doing in the process!! Good for you on training so hard. I really love the shirt design and think it's perfect!!!!!

good for you Mickster! and what a way to honor you Dad. Glad to hear that he's doing ok. Love the shirt!

Has your Dad seen the shirt yet? I think he will be very proud. And I think you should get him a matching one that says "Donald".
Way cool design!

Wow!!!

I think it is adorable!!!! Your dad will be thrilled!!! If I were you, IF you haven't let him see it.... I wouldn't till the day of the race.... I think it's great that you are doing this in his honor..

OK: Lisa, is there a special way we can track their progress or is someone w/ your friend that will txt you??? Can you imagine all of us cking on Mickster's status!!!

I haven't shown him yet...actually, you guys are the first ones I've shown it to...I haven't even shown it to my DH! :rolleyes1 I have my bib number somewhere in my giant mess of a desk...I think that is what you will need to track my progress...

Thanks. But keeping thinking good shin thoughts and be proud of me on the 11th. I'll bring my medal for show and tell when we're home... :)

LOVE the shirt!! :lovestruc

I was just thinking of you and the half-marathon the other day! I will be sending lots of pixie dust for good shins and a great half-marathon day!! Can't wait to see the medal!

I know your dad will be tickled with the shirt, too! I am so excited to hear all about it!!

That's awesome Mickster! I love the shirt. I will be sending prayers and pixie dust for no shin splints and an easy run!

pixiedust: for no shin splints.
From the Mayo Clinic
To prevent shin splints:

-Choose the right shoes. Wear footwear that suits your sport. If you're a runner, replace your shoes about every 350 to 500 miles.
-Consider arch supports. Arch supports can help prevent the pain of shin splints, especially if you have flat arches.
-Lessen the impact. Cross-train with a sport that places less impact on your shins, such as swimming, walking or biking. Remember to start new activities slowly. Increase time and intensity gradually.
-Add strength training to your workout. To strengthen your shins, try toe raises. Stand up. Slowly rise up on your toes, then slowly lower your heels to the floor. Repeat 10 times. When this becomes easy, do the exercise holding progressively heavier weights. Leg presses and other exercises for your lower legs can be helpful, too.

I love the design for your shirt. I really wish I could be there to cheer you on. I am just so proud of you.

I know! I do all of those things...stretch...calf raises...all of it...I am getting better, but they still aren't perfect. I have gone through 4 pairs of sneakers so far! :)
