My Son's Getting Married Tomorrow and I'm Unexpectedly Sad Tonight

OP, Just remember what follows after the wedding...

Grandbabies!!!:goodvibes

Just wanted to do a quick post to thank everyone for the replies. I'm still sad this morning, but nothing like last night. I think it is the realization that he doesn't need me so much anymore, but your replies helped.

I don't expect there will be grandbabies, as they say at this point that they never want children. I'm fine with that, if that's what they want. With 4 children, 1 of them not wanting babies isn't as devastating as it would be if he was an only child.

I've filled my purse with tissues and borrowed my DD15's waterproof mascara, so I guess I'm as ready as I'm ever going to be.

Thanks all!

There is an old saying:

"A son is a son 'til he takes a wife; a daughter is a daughter all of her life"

You know, I hate that saying.

I have a husband and had a mother-in-law and there was not one time that my husband ignored his mother when she needed something, & he always did for her what needed to be done. And I would include myself in that as well. DH & I had a very good relationship with my in-laws, and we both helped take care of each of them, as part of a group of relatives, as they were dying...spending hours with them at their home, so they could stay in their home, as was their wish. They died within 9 months of each toher, so it was a long year that year.

If parents "lose" their son when he gets married, there's a reason. He either married a "witch" who isn't nice to anyone or the parents have not made her feel welcome into the family.

That's how I feel. We live very close to my MIL, and she knows she can call for her son whenever she needs him. I know my sons will be as attentive, because they've had such a good example!

Congratulations OP, have a wonderful time!

He is always gonna love you, love you, love you. My DH is my MIL's only son that she had after a long battle with infertility, and she is so wonderful and treats me like gold, and it's my honor to be in her life, truly. I wish you all the best and won't be surprised if your new DIL feels the same way. :)

My son didn't get married yet but he moved out into his own apt. last week, he's 21. I can't believe how hard it was to look at his empty room. On top of that my youngest son started kindergarten today. :sad1:

Hey, don't shoot the messenger! I am the mother of a son who is the absolute apple of my eye and I hope that the "old saying" isn't true! I tell him all the time that nobody in this world will ever love him as much as his mother does. Probably shouldn't say that, I may have to start putting money aside for his therapy bills. Either that, or I am going to have a 40 yr old still living in my basement.
