We just got home a week ago from WDW. We went from 9/11-9/21. Weather was perfect. We missed all the hurricanes and the crowds were minimal.

However, we did have 2 mishaps at WDW with injuries. I have not written to WDW as of yet and was wondering if you think i should.

First- On thurs, 9/16, My fiance and her daughter went on RnR. I decided to get some ice cream at hollywood scoops out front with my boys. She said she got in the car with her 9 year old, was trying to make sure she was secure in the car when all of a sudden a castmember came by and pushed the bar down on her. She wasnt ready for it to go down, as she had both of her legs together while reaching over to secure her daughters items. Both of her legs were then locked on one side of the car, not spread apart between the safety bar as it should be. Her arm was also inside the bar as well and could not be moved. The castmember would not open the bar and the car left. She got bruised on her legs from them hitting the bar, and her neck was sore because her head was turned and she could not straighten it out. We went to the customer relations office, they sent us to first aid then. then they called a RnR supervisor to come over, but they never showed up. First aid then finally called back to CR and a person came over. They took us to a waiting room in the rear of CR, next to first aid and offered drinks. Finally the RnR supervisor showed up. He apologized, and asked what we were doing next. I said we are going back to our room at WL to get our luggage since we just did a resort hop that morning, then maybe back to see fantasmic that night. They then offered to drive us back to the WL by van, and gave us the PS ticket to see Fantasmic. Though they were nice, i just feel they didnt do enough.

Second- on Sunday 9/19, we went from WL to Ft Wilderness to go to trails end buffet. As we were walking, my oldest 13 year old son stopped walking and had massive tears from his eyes. I went back to see what was wrong, and he had his foot up in the air. A rusted long nail with a square base attached to it was in his shoe. I pulled it out forcefully and had my fiance go to trails end and get someone. After 5 mins, the manager came out and i showed it to her. She asked if we wanted a paramedic, but when we took off his shoe, it did not appear to break the skin, but it did contact his foot. WE got seated immediately at the restaurant, then went to mgm. He complained it still hurt so we went to first aid. they looked at it and said it did not break the skin and gave us a list of doctors to see if we needed it. that was it.

Do you think i should write to disney about this?? Do you think they should do something about it?? I think they should, but not sure what.

What do you think??

What do you suggest they do about it?

The RnR manager already knew the situation, and likely already took care of things. What more would you like him to do about the CM who carelessly pushed the bar down too quickly? Fire him? Write him up? Remind him of being careful? Do you think these things were done already? Or do you not feel it was done, so you want to ensure it?

What would you like them to do about a rusty nail, that didn't even break the skin? You contacted the people in charge, they took care of you immediately and tried to make you happy...

I'm just wondering what more they could have done...?

I suppose you could write a letter too, but I wouldn't write one unless you had an idea as to what they can do to make these things better, which IMO already were made better by their attention to it.

???

As an outsider reading your post, it sounds to me like enough was done. I'm not sure what else they could do. Both of those things were accidents. The people that caused them to happen (the RNR CM and whoever either dropped that nail, or didn't clean it up) are only human. Even Disney CM's make mistakes sometimes.

Good luck deciding what to do! :)

I think they did what they could in the first place for your fiancee. If you had wanted something else you probably should have asked for it then. Or do you just want to make sure the CM was disciplined or retrained as required so this won't happen to someone else? If your fiancee has the CMs name, she might want to write a letter under the What Wouldn't Walt Do category.

As for your son, that may not be Disney's fault at all. They just had several hurricanes and there's a lot of debris around. Or it might be similar to what just happened on one of our beaches: some whackjob affixed a bunch of utility blades to pieces of wood, and buried them in the volleyball courts. The world is full of idiots, and all you can do is exercise caution. I'm glad it didn't break the skin and your DS was okay.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

I don't mean to sound, well, "mean", but I think they did do enough.

Though both situations were unfortunate, Disney tended to both situations quickly and tried to accomodate you and your family. I can understand being angry about the RnR, but they definitely addressed the situation. Regarding the nail....I'm sure Disney had no intention of injuring anyone. The fact that it did not pierce his skin is a good thing, so you had good luck on your side.

Are you looking for compensation? If so, I doubt they'll offer anything. It's not Disney's way. At best, they'll apologize again and that will be it.

Not having been there to see the attitudes of the CMs you dealt with, etc, it sounds like they were fine, to me, assuming there were no lasting injuries.

I'm sorry these things happened to you while you were at WDW! Thankfully, neither one of the injuries sounds serious, and I hope both people are doing well now.

As for what Disney should do, or what you should do ... the time to really ask for something or file a formal complaint was when these things happened. But let's look at each thing seperately.

The nail in the shoe -- as you said, your son went to first aid, the nail did not puncture the skin, and you were given a list of doctors. Did you use that list and see a doctor? If not, you probably can't pursue this one any further. According to your timeline, after the injury happened, you had dinner and then went back over to MGM. So, even though your son said it still hurt, it obviously didn't stop you from doing what you were going to do that night. In this case, it seems as though Disney did everything they should have done. They offered medical assistance, sat you quickly (in other words, bumped you up to VIP status), and then first aid offered you a doctor. It was your choice to not call the paramedic or visit the doctor, so I think you'd be hard-pressed to ask for anything else, unless what you're looking for is simply an assurance that the area you were walking in has been checked for other debris so that this doesn't happen to anyone else.

The RnR injury apparently involves a ride CM not doing the procedures properly. However, you weren't there when the incident happened, so it's really your fiancee who needs to pursue this, as she's the one it happened to. Additionally, you need to decide why you're pursuing it. You said that you went to Guest Relations, they sent you to first aid, you spoke to the RnR supervisor, he apologized, you accepted his offer to ride back to WL and also accepted a PS ticket to see Fantasmic. It's only after you got home and thought about it some more that you decided they didn't do enough. The time to make the claim was then and there. To Disney, the matter is closed because you accepted what they offered you.

That said ... if you or your fiancee decide to pursue this, you'll need to be very clear about what it is you expect Disney to do for you and you'll need to detail why. What would, in your opinion, be "enough?" And, why are you asking for more now, after you've returned home, instead of following it up at the time? I know it's frustrating to have accidents happen on vacation, and nothing can replace the time on your vacation that you lost to these unfortunate events. But Disney can't replace that time either. It does sound, though, like they did their best to help you deal with what happened. IMO.

It's always disappointing to hear of less than pleasant experiences at WDW. However, I'm glad to know that you and your family were not injured on either occasion. I tend to agree with the other posts, in both cases, the situation was addressed at the time--and apparently to your family's satisfaction. What is it that you hope to gain from further exploration of the issues? If it's compensation, then just say it--and you should have said so at the time of each incident.

I agree with the above posters. The rusty nail was unfortunate, but could have been a lot worse. My guess is that it may have been debris from the recent storms that the clean-up crews probably missed. Obviously, from your post, the most physical trauma your son suffered was perhaps a slight bruise, not unlike a "rock bruise". Uncomfortable, yes, but it did not prevent you from continuing on to another park after you refused paramedic treatment offered by Disney.

As for your fiance, again, an uncomfortable situation. But rollercoasters have limited dispatch times without shutting down the whole system. She saw the first aid people, and it was not a serious injury that prevented you from enjoying the rest of your trip. The RnR manager apologized, and we can assume a report exists somewhere that he reviewed loading proceedures with the appropriate CMs. They offered and you accepted, the PS for Fantasmic and a van trip back to your resort.

Personally, I'd consider both matters over and done with.

I agree that both matters should be considered closed.

The RnR incident - you accepted the offer of "compensation" put forward by Disney... if you wanted more, you should have said at the time, as going back and asking for more now would seem like gold digging to be honest.

The nail incident - since no real harm came of the child (I know it caused distress, but there was no real damage done), I don't think there's any blame to be laid - these things happen, and there has been a hurricane or two come through of late.
