My son needs your help for a class assignment

Postcard from Hawaii arrived Thursday. They are getting excited now to see where they are all coming from. Kevin told me that their most exciting time of the day now is when their teacher starts to read the postcards and they have moved into FIRST PLACE.

One from New Hampshire on the way tomorrow!

Going to San Diego Wild Animal Park and Disneyland this weekend. Will send out one from any locations we can. It will be cool for my little one to participate in. -D

Thank you to each and every one of you who have taken the time to help him out with this assignment.

It will take me a while posting where they are coming from, since the hurricanes are putting a damper on everything, including our mail. We are supposed to get hit by Jeanne around Sunday morning, so school will probably be closed again this Monday. We have lost 10 school days so far. We used no "Bad Weather Days" last year and we have use all of our allotted ones for this year and some. Kids have to be in the schools for so many extra days - we are giving up part of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Summer vacation.

Keep those cards coming. They really need a morale booster. It goes on all the way through May, so send more than one, whenever you remember him.

I will send two out on Monday for him! That should count as 10 right? ::yes::

It might take awhile to get there though

It is very exciting. Here is a note that Kevin posted on the other boards regarding his postcard assignment:

Boy are we excited. After missing two more days from school because of hurricane Jeanne, we went to school today to find approximately 30 postcards. Mom will go to school this week to see and document where each one came from. However, we did receive postcards from the Oakland As (baseball team) and from NY Governor George Pataki.

We are so excited and can't wait to get to class to see where the next batch is from.

Thank you to each and everyone of you who has taken the time to send one and keep them coming.

bump!

I sent one from Mt Rainier, WA, Carmel, CA, San Francisco &
Mt St Helens - (she is about to lose her top again !!!

Pigsty---a friend of mine found out last week that her husband has to go to INDIA for 2 weeks for work. He's leaving this Sunday. She is so totally bummed!! However, I took it a different way and asked her what cities he is flying through in order to get there. His route of course departs out of Nashville, then to Detroit, Amesterdam, BAGHDAD, and into whatever city he is going to in India. I asked her to ask him to get me some postcards from each city. IF he has time and remembers to do this, I will mail them to your son. I hope it's ok that they come from Nashville and not the city where they were bought. There's no way Kevin can mail these while changing planes!! Let me know if there's a problem on that or if they won't count. If not, I'll not buy them.
Thanks!

That is fine and perhaps you can convince him to mail one from one of the airports he is in, while waiting for a connection. They do have mailboxes. Wouldn't it be great if we got one from Baghdad.

But your cards, no matter where they are from, will still count.

Way to go guys!!!!!!!!

Greetings from the Disney Magic! We sent Kevin a postcard from Antigua the other day and one from Castaway Cay today... goodness only knows how long they will take to arrive though!! Have a great day!!!

I WILL BE SENDING HIM ONE FROM CANADA THIS WEEK HOPE IT HELPS AND THAT HE WINS

I just wrote one out. It'll probably be postmarked from my little town (Rutland), but the card is about Worcester, MA.

Good morning!

I'll be sending one today from Mississippi! I'll be in Louisiana this week, and I'll send one from there, too! I think I can get one from Arkansas mailed to you if you need it.
I'll see what other places I can get for you.

Sorry for not updating, but can you believe it that with all the hurricanes and the storms (lightning) we have been getting almost daily, all three of my computers crashed. I am actually borrowing a neighbors.

He is in the lead. He has close to 250 points right now. They are coming in from all over the world and the USA. I will be going into his class this coming week to record them all for his teacher, so I will be able to see each and every one and then update where they are coming in from. Don't fret, I will post them here and let you know.

Thank you. Some of the cards are just beautiful from what he tells me. Everyday he comes in really excited to tell me - China, New Zealand, Australia, Africa, UK, Canada and of course, the US and Caribbean.

Wow! How cool is this? My friend will be returning from India Sunday so hopefully he will have remembered to get some postcards from there and I can mail them to you then. He found out that he has been asked to go back in Dec or Jan so maybe if he didn't get any this time, he'll remember next time.
Have fun w/this....I wish one of my kids were doing it!

Am I understanding this correctly? Do the postcards have to bear the postmark of each place (town, city, state, country) that they come from? I have sent one from my hometown in Mississippi, and one from New Orleans, but in order to send another from Miss. would my husband have to send it, or would we need to send one from another town? I'm going to ask my mom to send one from Oregon, and my niece to send one from Pennsylvania.

Sweet Maxine--I had this very same question just a few posts back--see page 2. My understanding is that they PREFER it to be postmarked from that city/state but doesn't HAVE to be. My friend that is returning from India Sunday hopefully will bring the cards to me and then I will mail them from TN. Since he is a business man and will have to make several connections, I didn't want to bother him w/having to stop and find a mailbox so just asked him to grab a few for me. Plus having to buy stamps and keep up w/Kevin's address etc I felt was just too much for him to deal with. I had posted that he was chaning planes in Baghdad but actually it's Bombay---he flew over Baghdad on the way in but didn't have to connect there. We are thankful for that.
I hope this helps w/your question but I'm sure Pigsty can help you and answer your question better than I can.

This is to answer Sweet Maxine's questions: The postcards can be from anywhere in the world that you get them. The postmark where they are mailed from is where the points come in: ie, if you have a postmark that you picked up in your travels to lets say - Aruba but mailed it from Mississippi, the postmark will bear the fact that it was mailed from Mississippi. They will mark on their map where it is postmarked from and put a flag on the map for it but will also note on the map the location depicted on the postcard.

If you sent one from Biloxi, Mississippi - then you can only send one from there, but your friends and family are more than welcome to send one from there also. Those will also count as one point since they are not from the same person, bearing the postmark of the same town. However, if you send another one from anoter city near you or you visit from now through May 2005, they will count it as another point since the postmark is from a different city.

I hope this answers your questions and keep them coming. I hope to be able to put a list together by next week, have one of my computers back in working order, and let everyone know exactly the amount we have received.

Thank you and have a great weekend.

I just wanted to clear up my own confusion, so thanks for your explanation. My daughter went to Europe this summer, and bought several postcards. She wanted to know if she could send a couple of them, or if they would not count towards the total (since we would be mailing them from Mississippi). So, if I understand correctly, we would need to visit somewhere else in Mississippi to drop off another post card, or she could send one herself (and it would count as she has not sent one previously). Wow! Am I making any sense? I just think this is the neatest project, and something that I can see really inspires the kids to learn! Your son must really have a great teacher!
