My son just got carded for buying Red Bull

Red Bull does look a little like a can of beer if you don't look close..but it is smaller than a normal can.

Energy drinks like Red Bull can not be bought with food stamps because of one of the ingredients, same goes for some of the energy bars that say "plus" on the label. ..I wonder if they are now carding because of that same ingredient.

Lol... I got carded for Nyquil not too long ago. Also most OTC the local cashiers here at Wal-Mart ask for ID... you must be 18 to buy these, I'm 25! =o)

But, unless it is illegal to sell products with that ingredient to minors, and if they are not purchasing with food stamps, why the need to card?

What is this ingredient that is so bad for minors? I've had the stuff and I don't recall anything that could be causing this.

LOLOL That is a new one.

I got carded 2 years ago when I ran into the store to buy hubby a pack of smokes. I was 30 at the time and pregnant and had my 12yo son with me. I didnt bring my wallet in so I told the cashier sure, I will just send my 12yo out to my my licence. I was flattered but I so do not look under 18 :rotfl2:

one time at a Meijers, the cashier wouldn't sell a woman Wine Vinager because it was Sunday!! We have blue laws in Indiana that you can't buy wine on Sunday, but Vinager?!?! They lady was really nice about it and didn't push the issue

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: My son, 25, just got back from the store, and he was carded for buying Red Bull and Sobe Power Juice. He said the cashier was elderly and insisted on seeing his ID.

After I stopped laughing, I asked him if he told her there was no alcohol in the drinks. He said no, he had his wallet out anyway and decided it would be less of a hassle to just show her his ID. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I bet your son is a hottey and the cashier was just "checking him out"!!! I know that's what I would do in that case, desperate housewife that I am!!!!! :lmao:

I really don't have a clue, we don't card for it...yet. You guys would hate my store...we have 100% proofing for beer and cigarettes. EVERYONE gets asked for ID. Annoying? you bet, but it is company policy.

I can't even figure out what the ingredient is that would make them food stamp ineligible.

There are some health concerns about the use of Red Bull. It's not recommended for children under 16. I remember hearing recently that sales of Red Bull were to be prohibited here to children. I'm not sure if this is in effect now. It seems that the main concern is that is is not to be used as a "sports" drink (ie. Gatorade). Here are two links to information about this:

Your son sounds like a nice young man! I bet most kids would have ARGUE with the clerk! But he seemed very mature and professional in his demeanor and just simply satisfied the clerk by showing his ID!!! PERIOD :thumbsup2

Me, on the other hand, is a "hot headed Irishmen" (woman)...I would have had this attitude..."Umm, ma'am, sir...are you aware there is no alcohol in either of these items I am purchasing"!!! "Are you?".... :furious:

You son sounds like my son, I would advise my DS to act the way your son did and yet I would probably NOT!!!! I cannot believe I am admitting that but it is true..as I read your Post..I am "ASSUMING" that he is going to be "all over that clerk" and yet as your Post went on...I WAS VERY IMPRESSED!!!!!!

GOOD JOB, MOM.....GOOD JOB :thumbsup2

Thank you! Yes, he has always been a very nice young man, never one to make waves. He has a wonderfully dry sense of humor and it was just one of those, "Oh well" moments! :)

I do think he is quite good-looking, but the cashier was probably about 50 years older than him! Well, according to my son anyway. :teeth:

Would they also card for Coke or 7Up? This stuff is getting downright weird lately.

I was carded (in Texas, no less) while buying a Diet Dr. Pepper. :teeth: Apparently, since it was a beverage (e.g. alcohol) store, you couldn't buy anything, alcoholic or otherwise, from the store unless you were 21+. :confused3

In a similar vain, I got carded recently for purchasing margarita salt. The woman was adament that she couldn't sell it to us without ID.

Living in a college town, you get carded for random **** all the time. Some stores are really bad and card for red cups and ice. red bull is another common one to card b/c of the massively popular drink of "Jagerbombs" which is dropping a shotglass full of jagermeister into a glass of red bull, and chugging. I personally hate red bull and jagermeister so my roommates here from me all the time about how bad it is.
