I feel your pain DD got hers last week. The good think is the drivers ed instructor will take the first 6 hours of road time before DH has to take over.

I've told DH since the kids were small, "I gave birth... You get to teach them how to drive"

Mine will be joining them in a few days. He's old enough, but has to prove he can read at an 8th grade level before he takes the test. Just red tape, but he's chomping at the bit until the high school looks up his test scores.

DD just received her license December 17. We at letting her take short solo trips with mandatory phone calls on arrival and departure. Still makes me nervous every time she is out there.

Every age has a new worry.

I feel your pain! I just about died when my oldest (now 19) got his license, and then my next got his in October, now my next one will get his permit in a couple of months....this is toooo much! Aside from paying the insurance on 4 teenage boys, the worrying can kill you! Good luck to you, I hope all goes well!!!

Snow White-did you have to take a 2nd mortgage to pay insurance? Ours is outrageous-for one teenager with a 4.6 GPA and Drivers ED-I shudder to think about 4!
I would rather trust my mature, level-headed DS than have him ride with friends-his GF gives life to the term hell on wheels!

got her permit last month.
Our school district no longer offers driver's ed, so it's up to the parent (that's me! ) to teach it. She's doing pretty well though. She will get her license in August and I get to start paying an extra $100 a month on our insurance!

jsmith, If adding one teen to your policy makes your rates outrageous, I'd have to look into switching companies.
I actually had all 3 on my policy at one time and it still wasn't outrageous. It they're not listed as principal dirvers, it shouln't be.


kteacher, Been there 3 times already. And I still worry when I know each of them are out on the road. I wonder if that ever goes away. Good Luck teaching your son to drive!

Ranatra-it's not my insurance company that is the problem (USAA has some of the most reasonable rates around) It's where I live. Metro Denver has something like the 3rd highest auto rates in the country. We have a lot of people living here who came from places like California and Florida where it rarely snows. Because driving in that kind of weather is a learned skill there are tons of accidents in the winter, and a fair number of those folks think that if they have 4 wheel drive they are invincible, which make it even worse!
Before we moved here we lived in Wyoming-and when we moved here only DH and were drivers our insurance went up 400% just because of the change of zipcode.
