Yesterday she came home from work to find her doorjam totally busted in. She called me (I live right down the block) and the police, afraid that whoever did this was still there. A hunky police officer came, :smooth:, pulled a gun and walked in. He checked everywhere but didn't find anyone. Thank God her cat, who by the way is deaf, was still there fast asleep!

The creep took only small thing, a leather bag, a cd player, some fake jewelry that looked real, but messed up her bedroom pretty bad. The worse thing he took was her DVD player, the one she inherited from my Mom's estate. This bothered her the most because it was a reminder of my mother.

The worse part is the loss of peace. Both of us moved to this part of town because it was like a small town in a larger one and most of the residents here have been here forEVER. It's a "dorm" for an adult college nearby and a home for the families of cancer patients for a nearby hospital. My two dearest neighbors are my 75yo friend and her 95 year old mother who have lived here for 30 years. They're more angry than terrified.

Two other people were burgled the same day. My sister is thinking of not going to visit her daughter in California now (I convinced her otherwise). It's ironic that two tough NYers have to experience this in a place we thought was safe.

:(

Robin,

We were robbed (pretty badly) about 6 months after we moved into our nice rural, suburban town. I can completely empathize with your sister, and would be happy to email or talk to her, as someone who 'has been there'

The good news is that the feeling of violation eventually goes away. I am so sorry about the DVD player, she must be feeling terribly about that.

{{{{hugs}}}} to you both, and I'm just an email or PM away.

Debbie

I'm am so sorry to hear of this intrusion. {{{HUGS}}} to you and your sister. :D

Very scary Robin. It makes me mad when some jerk of a thief just enters your home and makes off with personal possesions. Things that we have to work for to buy. Things that are handed down from a loved one. Maddening....

I have a 60 pound Shepard X that is my protector and guardian. I feel pretty safe leaving my home with her in it.

[[[[[[hugs]]]]] to your sister.

I was robbed at gunpoint years ago, at a very upscale shopping mall in a very ritzy suburban area in Maryland. Ever since I have never let the area in which I live or where I may be have any influence on how safe I may feel. It can, and does, happen everywhere. :(

I'm so sorry your sister experienced this, Robin. I think its time for your family to get a break from the bad luck. :(

Thinking of you, my friend.

So sorry to hear that, Robin, lousy people in this world.

We were also burlarized, about 25 years ago. Main loss, like your sister's, was sentimental, inexpensive jewelry, from Marie's deceased dad that was his mother's (Marie's grandma). We had that violated feeling also. I pretty much got over it, Marie carries it to this day. :(

Hugs for your sister, Robin. :sunny:

I'm so sorry this has happened to you all. We too had this happen in our quiet older neighborhood. Most of what they took was mementos from relatives who had passed on. It took putting in a security system before I felt better about living in our house.

I'm sorry to hear this. I hope your sister is able to feel safe again soon. :(

I am so sorry to hear that Robin :( I hope that your sister will feel safe again soon {{hugs}}

Oh Robin, that is awful. I hope your sister will feel better soon, though I know the loss of the DVD player will haunt her.:( My sisters house was broken into and they took the ring from my grandmother. I was heartbroken, I can't imagine how my sister felt.:( (((((HUGS))))

So sorry to hear, Robin...what a terrible thing to happen...I do hope they catch whoever did this to her!

It doesn't matter how small or how large a town/city is. Criminals don't care about the location sometimes. {{hugs}} I'm sorry about your sister's stuff.:(

Hey, was that cop single?;) Maybe you could invite him over for dinner sometime and he could help keep an eye on the neighborhood or something.;)

Robin, I'm sorry to hear that. I feel badly for your sister.:(

We were burglarized in 1992, we lived in an apartment back then. When it happened, I was pregnant with our first child and one week away from my due date. It was terrible, we felt so violated...:( :( The burglar took some jewelry, a VCR, etc. Basically, things that didn't require a lot of time to remove. They also took our camcorder and our baby's car seat which were ready and waiting in the living room, in case I went into labor.:( :( :(

We think it was somebody that worked in maintenance for the apartment complex, but nothing ever came of it. The sad thing is that it can happen anywhere...:(

Ditto what Snoopy said, I hope things turn around for you and your family soon. Hang in there.

I'm so sorry, Robin. {{{hugs}}} to you and your sister.

Oh, Robin, I hope you can report some good news soon, so many unfortunate things happening to you and your family!

Sad to report, our house was burglarized several years ago in the Orlando suburbs. Came home to find the garage door wide open. House was ransacked (all except for our DD room; guess they didn't think anything of value would be in a small child's room) and our bedroom was a MESS! They took one of the pillowcases and put everything small into that. Took all electronic equipment but, thankfully, nothing of sentimental value, except a strand of pearls given to me as a birthday gift from my Mom.

The police said they usually only take things that they can sell/pawn quickly.

Whoever did it, broke the dining room window, came into the house, went into the garage and opened the door, pulled the car/truck into the garage and closed the door. So, they didn't have to worry about anyone seeing them. One of them even vomited in the kitchen sink and floor! YUCK!

It was a long time before we felt safe again, but we did get a security system installed the very next day!

Of course, I live in MIAMI and luckily have NEVER been robbed. I guess having an Alarm System, and quadruple locks on the doors, PLUS Bars Inside the Windows help a Lot! Yes, its like Fort Knox here in North Dade! Plus having P.W. the very brave Dachshund with his Vicious Barking Helps a lot......the criminals Don't know he wants FOOD!!! :teeth: Hope you and your Sis recover quickly.;)

Thanks, everyone. I posted this and went to bed last night!

Believe me, I know this can happen anywhere. I spent hundreds of dollars on security in New York and came down with the same attitude here to Georgia. People would laugh at how I had so much security in my home from clapper lights to radios that go on and off during the day, to an alarm at the entry points. I guess after awhile, 15 years, you can gain a false feeling of security.

My sister came down here after 17 years of marriage ended in divorce. It is her first time living alone. I know she's tough but it's hard to live in a place that a burglar's been through when you live alone. I went out yesterday and bought her an alarm, she just laughed and told me she was going to invest in a system.

FOJMO, I know it looks like my life is a series of bad news but believe me, I know that trials are tests... and without a test there IS no testimony.

My sister is so happy that her cat wasn't hurt and that she or I didn't walk in on this guy. Things don't matter, people do.

Shannon: You silly girl! The guy was GORGEOUS but very married. He came over later and checked on us, too. He gave us a cellphone number to call us if we needed him and just made us feel so important. When I was robbed in NY they acted like I was STUPID and if I thought I'd ever see my stuff again, fuhGETaboutit!

Robin, I'm so sorry. I will never understand the mentality of people who do things like that.

My parents home was broken into several times. One time they stole some money in jars and an antique shot gun, it didn't work, my dad hoped it backfired.

They also dumped a purse my mom had sitting on the dining room table. I bet the creeps were surprised when instead of money or anything valuable, out came a hammer, nails and a screwdriver.
My parents had been helping to roof a house that day and came home long enough to go to a funeral.

I love having my big dog in the house. She is a baby, but she's protective with strangers.
