friend just said her SIL owns a condo in Disney
Asked if she meant DVC and friend said no
SIL is rich and actually owns a condo in Disney

Is there such a thing or are they in fact talking about DVC? How does one OWN a condo in Disney?

I don't think you can own a condo on property(could be wrong of course). Maybe you can buy one at Bonnet Creek:confused3 or perhapse she owns one just outside of Disney but still calls it a "Disney" condo

My vote is for DVC. People outside the DIS may not be hip to the terminology that we use to describe specific things such as DVC, ASMo, AKL, CRO, etc. They may have misunderstood as i'm 99.9% sure you can't own property like that on Disney. If anything like that were to occur, i'd assume it would be like trying to get membership to Club 33 at Disneyland.

There are lots of privately owned condos nearby to WDW, just not on the property.

There are a few privately owned residences located on the far side of Bay Lake, though, but I'm not sure if that is considered Disney property. And they may have already been there when Disney bought the land way back when.

ya she was insisting it was IN disney
but i hadnt heard of any privately owned condos IN disney

Is her name Cinderella, and does she have a tower apartment???;)

Either she's incorrect about it being IN Disney, or incorrect that it is not DVC. It must be either a condo in Celebration (which used to be considered IN Disney) or some other condo very near the property, which there are plenty.

How about the Bonnet Creek resort area? Are there any condos in there? That is a little piece of property that is not technically Disney property, but it is surrounded by it.

As a DVC member, you technically own a piece of a unit at one of the DVC resorts. The paperwork is spelled out in terms of x% of such and such a unit (numbers that do no coincide with room numbers). That's the only way to own a condo inside Disney.

This friend knows I have DVC. Asked her if her SIL could be talking about DVC and she said no.

Best bet is to ask her what it is called then maybe we can work out where it is.

Claire ;)

lots of people consider all of Lake Buena Vista to be Disney - it isn't. part of it is in Orlando.

I was doing some research for a friend of mine with a timeshare room to book. There is a condo onsite. Wyndham Bonnet Creek is located within Disney properties, but is not owned/operated by Disney.

From their website:

From Orlando International Airport: Take State Rd 417 south to Exit #6 (RT536). Continue straight on to RT536. Pass through the Walt Disney World gateway sign. Take the first exit on your right towards Downtown Disney. At the traffic light , make a left on to Buena Vista Dr. At next light take a left on to Chelonia Pkwy. Resort will be ½ mile on the left.

The person could indeed own a property at Disney (but not a Disney property).

That's just another time share and not a condo that could be purchased for full time occupancy.

Wow! I was reading that link another poster posted about Celebration, kinda cool, kinda weird!

Here is more info about Celebration from wikipedia.

From this website:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celebration,_Florida

Celebration is connected directly to the Walt Disney World parks and resorts by World Drive; the north end of World Drive begins near the Magic Kingdom and its south end connects to Celebration Boulevard, allowing Celebration residents and guests to drive to Disney property without having to use any busy thoroughfares.
------------------------------------------------------

If you take a look at the homes for sale in Celebration you will see a lot of them are over $1 million. Condos often go for over $300,000

It is a very interesting community to say the least.
