I've done it before but the old fashioned way--on land.

It definitely sounds like a blast and likely requires some skill as the ship is moving. I agree with dvcdisney that Disney would never go for it, but why not a VR experience? Maybe other cruise lines will bring it back as long as it doesn't wake anybody up or frighten the kiddos.

LMAO!!! Just imagine people trying to find a stateroom and the stateroom reports. "Can anyone tell me if room 8815 is near the skeet shooting platform? How is the noise? Can you hear gunshots?"

Thanks everyone for the laughs. It makes sense if the Love Boat had it. My sister is 61 yo old and the Love Boat was her favorite TV show. Her being older, she probably remembers a lot more episodes than I ever did. Since she has never cruised I am sure she is just thinking about stuff on the Love Boat. I guess I won't have her committed after all.

Just make sure she knows that the cabins aren't as big as they were on the the Love Boat. I loved watching that show when I was a kid. Dh and I went on a Disney cruise for our honeymoon nearly 20 yrs ago. Walking into our cabin and seeing how small it was came as a shock to me.LOL!

I did skeet shooting on the NCL Norway on my honeymoon. It was the day of the formal night and I had a strapless gown. No amount of concealer could cover the bruising from the gun recoil.

She is joining us on our NYC cruise in November. I called her the other day to discuss her paying off her balance by a certain date so we can all book excursions together.

She asked me if there was skeet shooting. I told her no, but then realized maybe she meant shuffleboard. So I said they had shuffleboard on deck 4. She said No, skeet shooting.

WTH?? Where did get the idea that ANY cruise line would give people a gun to shoot at flying discs off the back of the ship, least of all DISNEY!

Oh my..this is going to be an adventure with her. LOL

Actually it used to be very common on cruise ships....back in the 40's & 50's so she is not too far off base!!!

This was very common in the cruise industry in the 70’s and 80’s and maybe even the 90’s. She’s not as crazy as you think. There are episodes of The Love Boat that shows them doing that.

haha...I just responded to the thread and then saw your post....almost the same except the years....I didn't realize they kept it up through the 80's!

I think they could bring it back with some kind of ocean friendly discs.

I watched part of the first episode on youtube a while back. It was funny to watch having experienced how cruising is today. People boarding just walk on and give their name and are given their stateroom number without having to provide ID. People who aren't passengers come onto the ship before it sails.

I also enjoyed skeet shooting on the Norway. It was after hurricane Andrew, 1992? It was fun. I had not fired a gun of any type in over 20 years. In my group was a cocky guy, you know the type - knows how to shoot and everything else. He hit zero out of ten. A petite woman went ten for ten. I managed to hit four out of ten and was very happy with my score. Still am... I don't recall if it was formal night.

Our formal night occurred when we were in rough seas and inclement weather. People had a hard time standing up straight and were bouncing off of the walls. They huge buffet was moved indoors. I have to say it was magnificent! The bakers had made special breads in different shapes for the buffet. One favorite memory was a woman, in a formal gown, and heels, with a large bread shaped like a turtle tucked under her arm, trying to walk back to her cabin. The body of that turtle was the size of a large pie. We were in a cabin (stateroom?) on the two upper decks that had been added to the ship. Laying in bed that night while the ship was being tossed about, I kept thinking 'the only thing holding these decks to the rest of the ship was the elevator shafts.' (hahaha)

I'd love the opportunity to shoot again!

We did skeet shooting in Ireland a couple of weeks ago, but it was with laser guns. It was pretty cool how it kept score for your group. They could probably set up something like that as they do with the sports simulators, but it’s totally weird to think of people shooting real shells off the boat.

My cruise was in November that year. It was a Country Western theme cruise — we were really into dancing back then. OMG. Those midnight buffets were to die for. I remember the ice sculptures and the lobster tail canapés. I was very disappointed when we went on our next cruise years and years later that cruise line didn’t offer midnight buffets.

I also thought the skeet shooting was fun. It was a challenge and hitting the clay target was satisfying. It was my one and only time I’ve shot a gun.

Be warned, it’s weird to watch with modern eyes. Weirder if you watch it with a preteen or teen whose eyes and brain ARE modern.

It was a heart breaker watching her get towed around, they said for repairs. It was poor repairs that caused the explosion in the engine room that killed some of the crew. We live close to another heart breaker - the SS United States, currently docked in South Philadelphia. We get to admire her crossing the bridge into PA, and having a meal at the IKEA store across the street from the pier. Sad to see, but... one day even the Fantasy will probably be turned into razor blades too.
