We are normally not morning people, however I had heard about the this character meal and wanted to try it. We had only been to Chef Mickey's and The Garden Grille before. We had very early PS for this, and it just started out bad. We stayed on site, but because our PS was before official park opening we decided to drive. We did not want to risk taking the bus from POP. When we got to the parking lot gate, there was no one there and they had cones blocking entrance? Finally we got frustrated, got out and moved a cone to get in. Then we unloaded our 4 children, on a particularly COLD windy February morning. There was a crowd of other people with PS waiting outside, we waited for at least 1o minutes (in the cold) at the front gates, before they started calling guests back. The hostess would take about 7 families back at one time. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes before we were called back. I was cold, but still not disatisfied, because I knew a great experience was coming. Boy, was I wrong. We walked into the restaurant and were seated at the table right next to the door! Of course, this was the main entrance door and was opened and closed MANY MANY times during our meal. We were freezing the whole time! We were also eating with a LARGE group of cheerleaders. They were actually not ill behaved or rude, but we did not get the attention from the characters that I am used to getting. Each character stopped at our table for a picture. We did not have autobooks, as my kids, have filled theirs. I feel that since I am not taking extra for each of my kids to get their books signed, that we should at least get some one on one time ( Just this past Monday 042004, me and my son were at Garden Grille and ALL the characters more than made magical memories!) This was not the case at Animal Kingdom. At one point my 10 month old got sick, and my DH took him to the bathroom to change his clothing. He missed Pluto, and he was the main reason we were at this meal. He was still in our "room" but was no longer at our table. My DH was gone for 5 mins tops. I asked our server if she could get him to come back around,as my baby missed him, and she told me that I had to ask the handler? You mean to tell me that she couldn't have siddled up to the handler and mention that my baby missed Pluto, could they please hit our table on the way out? They had to pass us again to leave, the way our table was situated. So I told the handler and showed her where we were sitting. She acted like it was a big inconvience, and said she would see. They did stop buy on their way out, but only long enough for my DH to snap an ackward picture of me holding the baby up to Pluto, not posed if you know what I mean. I think we can all agree, that the main reason for going to a character meal is for the interaction. The food here was blah, and definitely not worth the price. By this point I was very irritated and ready to leave. I do not recommend this meal at all. I was VERY VERY disappointed with it, and say skip it. If you must do a character meal, I highly recommend Chef Mickey's for breakfast or GArden Grille for lunch. ( This is my favorite!)

I am so sorry to hear about your experience at Donald's breakfast.
I have been here twice & plan on going two more times during our upcoming trip.
We always had a good time while we were there.
Sorry to hear you didn't :(

Sorry you had a bad experience. We've eaten breakfast here 3 times and always enjoyed the food and character interaction.

The first few years this place was open, we loved it. Loads of fun but as time went on and possibily, because of my kids ages the fun dwindled. By the time my kids were 8 and 10 the characters seemed disinterested. This place has always been packed when we were there and the characetrs were rushed anyway. Out of the 5 times we ate breakfast we got all the characters once and each trip we waited...and waited. So we don't got here anymore, problem solved. :sunny:

We were there on April 9. The restaruant was full. I believe we sat in the same area you were in. Our server was very nice and helpful. The people working the buffet were also. I asked one of them if they had grits and she went in the back made a bowl and brought them to my table.

We didn't have a long wait for the characters. I believe Pluto came out first and the others were not to far behind. Each one took time to sign autograph books, and pose for a picture then they moved on. With the number of people that were there they couldn't spend lots of time at each table.

On April 6 (my sister's birthday)we had breakfast at Cape May Cafe. This one was not crowded. The characters spent lots of time at our table. They took pictures (didn't have the autograph books yet) and played with the kids and adults. We were seated at a large table near the kitchen area. This was the same door the characters used to enter and exit the dining room. Whenever one of them would pass our table they would stop and play.

I think the amount of time the characters can spend at a table depends on how full the restaurant is.

Thanks for sharing the review. Im sorry the meal wasnt too good for you.
I have to laugh though. Reading your review sounds like dejavu to me. We had some similar experiences there. I agree we wont be going back, but we have, and will be again, returning to Chef Mickeys ;)

I'm sorry you had a bad experience there!

We ate at Breakfastasaurus in 2002, and that was my favorite character breakfast! Hmmm...I wonder if it's changed significantly since then!!??!!

Hopefully, your other 2 children were able to meet Pluto. The 10 month old probably wasn't too disappointed by it.

I'm not a fan of this breakfast either.:earsgirl:

So sorry to hear that your experience wasn't good and the cold weather made it worse.

My Dh and I went to Breakfastosaurus for our first ever character
meal in March and enjoyed it. I was worried because we didn't have kids with us but each character stayed for a few pictures and made us feel very welcome. Plus our CM server even insisted that she take pictures with Dh and I both with the characters and I got autographs too. We sat in a table for 2 by the door (fortunately no cold drafts!) and were the first table that the characters went to as they entered. Everyone cheered when the first character, Mickey, entered the room and he came right over to me!

I thought we would have to drive there as we had an 8am ps before the park opened at 9 but I found out that the buses would start running approx. 45 min beforehand, so we waited at the AK bus stop and at 7:15, the bus came for us. I noticed that some people who did not have ps's but came on the bus with us, ended up at the breakfast when they discovered that the park did not open until 9. We did have to wait at the gate until just before 8 o'clock and then we were led through (we were near the front of the line), had our pictures taken, and then were led to the restaurant. I thought it was pretty well organized for the number of people there. The food was basic, but hot and I had no complaints.

I would like to try Chef Mickey's next!

It seems to be a hit or miss meal. I was reading the reviews in the ratings and reviews section, and people either LOVED it or said no way not again! LOL I added my review of it as well. I appreciate everyone's replies! LOL I am usually a no reply getter :teeth: Does anyone know what we were supposed to do regarding the parking gate? I felt guilty just moving the cones to get in, I felt like I was doing something wrong, even though I have an AP and get free parking and we were staying onsite, and therefore got free parking! LOL THere was other people waiting as well, and I felt like since they saw me do that, that they were going to as well. As far as the character interaction depending on the restaurant capacity, I understand that. I just don't understand the difference in interaction at Chef Mickeys, Garden Grille or Park Fare ( I forget I have been here once before) which appear to me, at least, to be just as busy. Also, from the moment we were seated I knew I was not happy with the location, could I have asked for a different table, since they were still bringing the families in?

Thats right. I wasnt laughing at you, I was laughing at the irony. ;) You sounded just like me when we got back from our experience there...and that was 2 years ago.

LOL At least I know I am not crazy and that this place has some issues...............

Thats what I was thinking about myself too, since the majority of reviews I hear about it are good ones. I guess like any place it can have some off days. We were just lucky enough to hit them on those days. ;)

Does anyone know what we were supposed to do regarding the parking gate?

What time was your PS and what time did you get to the parking gate? We had a PS at 8:00 am in March and they weren't letting anyone in the parking lot until 7:50 (I think, it could have been 7:45). There were about a dozen or so cars waiting when they opened.

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience at Donald's. :( This is one of our very favorite meals; we eat here every trip and always have a great server and fun character interaction. I wish your experience would've been like that too.

As far as the parking, I have heard that the lots don't open until just before the earliest breakfast times. We always make PS's for the earliest time and just take the Disney buses. We haven't had any trouble getting there on time so far. Tyler (Chip 'n Dale Express) just posted a thread here in the restaurant forum about catching a bus for the early breakfasts. He has such wonderful advice. Maybe that will help you for future breakfasts. Here's the thread:

I don't like this character meal either. My son and I ate there about 3.5 years ago. The escort into the park is disorganized. The WDW folks seemed harried. The food was poor.
