Pop Century Resort Standard Room #7434

Pop Century Standard Room Pictures

Colin and I decided a couple of months before the honeymoon that it would be nice to add on an extra day at Disney World. We thought it would be really fun to try out a brand new resort only a few days after its opening, so we added on a night at Pop Century. I have stayed at All Star Music before, so I had an idea of what to expect, but I was excited to see the theming of Pop Century. When we arrived we couldn’t believe how many people were there! It was the very beginning of holiday season, and it seemed that we weren’t the only ones who wanted to try the new resort. The line to check in was HUGE, but I’m happy to report that the front desk staff worked very efficiently. While Colin waiting in the line, I walked around the lobby looking at the shadow boxes they have mounted on the walls with tons of memorabilia from each decade. After about 40 minutes it was our turn to check in. Despite how busy they were, we were thrilled to find out that our room was ready (this was around noon-ish). We were assigned to one of the 80’s buildings, which we were very excited about since we grew up in the 80’s. We drove our car over to the 80’s parking area and were able to get a good spot close to our building. Our room was on the 4th floor and the railing looked out over the area where the other half of Pop Century (with the decades 1900-1940) will be. Believe it or not, you could even see the Swan/Dolphin Resorts and the Tower of Terror from the balcony outside our room. I’m not sure if you will still be able to see those things once the other half of Pop Century is constructed, but it’s possible. Our room itself was small, but immaculately clean. I think it could be a bit cramped with four people in it (particularly with only one sink and not much area to put toiletries), but we had no problems with just the two of us. The room was cheerfully decorated, and the bedspreads were very cute. They were decorated with icons from the 1950’s – 1990’s. Since we were in the 80’s building, there was an 80’s wallpaper border and a poster with Disney stuff from the 80’s. The poster had neat memorabilia on it like an Epcot Center opening postcard, a Tron movie cover, etc. The entertainment center was large and had ample drawer space.

As far as the resort itself goes, we thought Disney did a terrific job with theming their newest resort. I had seen pictures of Pop Century online and was a little worried that it would look a bit tacky, but we didn’t find that to be the case at all. When you’re there, the décor really fits the theme perfectly. We took time to tour the resort and were happy to find lots of great photo opportunities (like a place to take your picture with Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head). We even found some areas where you could play Twister! The gift shop was large and had a good selection. The food court was HUGE, and also offered a wide variety of choices. We ate both a late lunch and breakfast there, and our food was very tasty both times. I would stay at Pop Century again, particularly when they open the second section so I can check it out too.

Great pictures.
:p
But the pools look very boring! just a plain like square thing.:earseek:
The All Stars have at least sprinkler/fountains in them. We really loved the Fantasia Pool at Movies.
Is there anything like that in any of these pools??

Thanks for your helpful reviews!

I'm going for my honeymoon in June, and I was wondering what is was like switching from resort to resort? We're thinkioing the same thing.

Thanks!

Elisabeth, thank you so much for posting your pictures of Pop Century. We are going to be taking a quick trip the end of February, and I wanted to do it economically, and was thinking about Pop Century, but a little reluctant. After looking at your pictures, it seems like a really fun place to stay. Thanks. Congratulations again on your marriage. I'll be reading the rest of your report.:D

Thanks for the great review and pictures. I am going with a friend and her two kids in Nov and can't wait:Pinkbounc

cindyfan--it's hard to capture in a picture, but the square part of the pool is supposed to represent the monitor part of the computer. There is a keyboard that you can see when you're there too. I do agree though, that is one of the more boring pools I've seen. Luckily Pop Century also has a pool shaped like a bowling pin and the Hippy Dippy Pool that is shaped like a flower. I did see some squirting fountains in the 60's area too. I could be wrong, but I believe the Hippy Dippy Pool is the biggest/most elaborate at Pop Century.

harleyquinn--we actually enjoyed splitting our stay. We ended up switching 3 times, which was one time too many in my opinion. Switching twice would be perfect for us. I love getting to experience more than one resort on each Disney trip, plus I like to pick two resorts that are close to different parks to maximize convenience (for example, staying at the Polynesian to be close to the MK and then moving to the Yacht Club to be close to Epcot and Disney-MGM Studios). Hope that helps! :)

The 50's pool is in the shape of a Bowling Pin.
The 60's pool is in the shape of a flower, with squirting flowers on some of the petals.
There is also squirty things in the Kiddie Pool
The 70's has a Pop Jet pool area
The 80's pool is in the shape of a computer monitor.

best pictures of Pop that I have seen. Thank you for sharing them with everyone. I will have to stay there sometime. Have stayed at all 3 AS. Like Movie the best.

Elisabeth,

Those pictures are great! I just reworked my budget for Thanksgiving 2004 and figured that we can afford stay at one of the Value Resorts for the WDW portion of our vacation instead of spending the entire week off-site.

We looked at Deb Wills' AllEarsNet website for and WDW's official website for pictures. then I came to the DIS for reviews. My 12yo DD is really excited about PC after seeing your photos. Thank you for sharing them.

Great Pictures!!

I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER!!!!!!!

COME ON FEBRUARY.....SO WE CAN GOOOOOOO!!!!
