Just returned from a wonderful, sunny, beautiful week in Disney! Can't wait to go back 
We arrived in Lorton around 1 pm and found that there was some type of track maintenance going on & the train was running about 1-2 hours behind schedule. So, we went to the Polo Grill (Amtrak advertises this place in their AutoTrain brochure - the food was GREAT. It's also next door to a Rite Aid, which came in handy because we had forgotten a few small items).
After lunch, we drove right into the station and checked in. I asked about an upgrade from coach to a standard sleeper. They said "no problem" and told us it would be $125. We took it, and boy, am I glad we did! The standard sleeper was perfect for the two of us. Private and quiet! The two seats fold down into a lower berth, and the upper berth folds down from the wall. It was perfect! Comfortable, cool, private & quiet....definitely worth the extra $$. The bathroom was just a few steps down the 'hall', and was only used by the couples in our car.
The ride back was not so great. We asked about an upgrade and were quoted a price of almost $300 to go from coach to standard sleeper! NO WAY! We stayed in the coach seats. The train was really, really late leaving Sanford, and the first seating of dinner was served while the train was still in Sanford. UGH.
Overall, the return trip wasn't too bad, except that the train started to have a bad, sour smell after a few hours. It made me lose my appetite and I skipped breakfast as a result. Once we left the train and I got some fresh air, I began to feel better.
