I've been obsessing over the resort choice for our next trip, fall 2016. Last year, I was set on Wilderness Lodge, then the construction was announced... For background, I'm the type that likes to try new hotels etc just to be able to check them off my list. I get antsy that I'm missing out on something if we stay the same place more than once. We tried POR a year ago and I've done AKL. I think my kids would love the WL theme, but also would prefer to avoid a construction zone. I want to experience everything at it's best. So here are my Pro's and Con's for WL, POR, and PORFQ. Any insights?

Wilderness Lodge
Pro's:
  • Close-ish to monorail resorts, planning to spend time at Poly/GF
  • Theme is right up my kids' alley, one is obsessed with raccoons and woodland creaturess
  • Planning to do things at campground: pony rides, Hoop De Doo, Trails End
  • Close-ish to monorail resorts, planning to spend time at Poly/GF
  • Kids club
  • Boat
  • Slightly bigger rooms
  • Restaurants sound like our kind of food
Con's:
  • Construction hurting ambiance
  • Beach closed
  • More expensive than POR
POR
Pro's:
  • We liked food court
  • Loved boat to DTD
  • Loved gift shop
  • We love feeling like we're getting a good value, most likely be eligible for fall discounts
  • Tried and true

Con's:
  • Not sure how much time we will have for DTD
  • Been there before, want to try new
  • Big footprint

PORFQ:
Pro's:
  • New place
  • Small
  • We think we'll like the grounds based on POR
  • Boat to DTD

Con's:
  • Not always eligible for discount
  • Have to walk to POR food court

So, I've pretty much talked myself into WL, despite the construction. Anything else I should consider?

Go with Wilderness lodge. No questions there. I was there during the great main pool rehab and it was a big mess in the middle. It never really bothered any of us. Just went to another pool. The beach being closed isn't a big deal , because its not really a big beach to do anything on. If you really want the beach boat over to fort wilderness for that. Doesn't take long at all. You will love the Lodge it is simply amazing !

Why would you have to walk to the food court at POR when staying at POFQ?

Will the WL still be under construction by fall 2016? If so, you could choose to stay there on a future trip and stay elsewhere for this one. If you have stayed at AKL & POR there are lots of other resorts to choose from!

From your list, I would stay at POFQ.

YOu haven't stayed there yet and no construction.

DW and I love both POFQ and WL, but if we have the chance we'd stay WL. The feel of the Lodge just says "We're HOME " especially during Christmas season. I wouldn't let the construction stop me. Have a fantastic trip where ever you decide to stay !!!!!pixiedust::dogdance:
