We are leaving Tuesday, and my husband has the flu!!! My daughter had it a couple of weeks ago and I thought the rest of us were going to escape, but no such luck! I have been making him sleep on the couch for several nights because I'm afraid he'll breath on me! He cannot use community towels, in fact no one is...I put a role of paper towels in each bathroom, and he has to carry around a container of clorox wipes to wipe everything he touches. I bought each of of a saline nose spray because I heard that can help stop virus' from spreading. He's being a good sport about it, but I am so afraid that my DS or I will get it next!!!! I feel like the black plague has hit my house!!! Any suggestion would be appreciated! I will try anything short of selling my first born!

Oh, no! I can't offer much advice, but wanted to send good wishes to you. What a bummer!

OMG! I saw this new cold/flu remedy on Ophrah and tried it myself and wow it works! I swear by it now! It is called "Airborne Effervescent Health Formula". It is amazing! Have your husband take it every 3-4 hours. Here is some info about it:

http://www.airbornehealth.com/

You can get it at Walgreens, CVS, and RiteAid. Give it a try! Goodluck!

I feel for you!! My husband came down with the Flu last Thursday and completely missed Christmas. I too wiped the house down with Clorox Wipes and what couldn't be wiped I used Lysol. He started feeling better on Tuesday and was pretty much back to normal yesterday. So, if he has what my husband had, by Tuesday he should be feeling better (maybe a little tired) but I'm sure up for your trip. Somehow the rest of us escaped (knock on everything!!!). My husband had the straight forward flu - big time fever, body aches but not really cold symptoms - so I don't think it is quite as contagious as the sneezy/coughing kind. One thing to look into before your trip - my husband's doctor put him on antibiotics because even though they don't treat the flu virus then will fight off any secondary infections (ie. sinus or ear infections). Good luck, have a great trip and here's hoping no one else gets the flu!!!

I forgot about airborne. I tried "Coldease" which I think is similar. If it doesn't help your husband, maybe it'll help the rest of the family build up their immunity.

Cold-eeze isnt similar at all, cold-eeze are "zinc" lozenges, they are supposed to shorten the duration of a cold, but have no affect on the flu. Trust me, try the airborne, i can't say enough about it!

If your husband just started having symptoms (like 24 hours ago) then he may be able to get Tamiflu (I think that's what it is) prescribed from his physician. It should be take like within 36 hours of first symptoms and helps trememdously with minimizing lenghth of flu symptoms. Supposed to help you get over flu faster. I took it a few years ago and by the 5th day or so, I was pretty much back to normal (as opposed to 7 to 10 days of experienceing symptoms.) Sounds like you're taking good preventative precautions. Frequent handwashing is extremely effective as well. Can your son stay with family until vacation?? My mother-in-law kept my children for like 5 days so they wouldn't get sick and none of them did.

Blessings and prayers for a full recovery.

I read your reply about 9:20 pm and was out the door! First CVS-sold out, second CVS-sold out, on to Rite-Aid...it's 9:53 and they close at 10:00. Can I make it? Yes!! Success!! I bought six boxes, came home and passed it around. DH is probably too far gone for help, but two older sons who are not going with us next week are just starting with symptoms. The rest of us are going to drink it a few times a days just to see if we can stay healthy. Thanks for the advice. I'll let everyone know how it works!

Awesome! You can tell how popular it is, it is sold out around here too! Anyways, IMHO the stuff doesn't taste that well, so try to dissolve it in as little watter and possible and try to down it in one drink. Once you get it down it works wonders. Have your husband take it before he goes to bed as well! Please let us know how things went!

Tamiflu is awesome! I am blessed with a DH that is a physician, we swear by it. It's not cheap, ~$50 a course, but when the flu "epidemic" started this past season I bit the bullet and have a full course on hand for me and a full pediatric regimen for one of the girls too. DH gets a flu shot so it's just me and the girls that I need to worry about. Good luck, maybe it's not the true "flu" and he'll be better soon. Sprinkling pixie dust your way..................

My family has been using Airborne for about 4 years, long before it was popular. Here are some very easy ways to make it taste better. If you take the original orange flavor, disolve it on orange juice instead of water. It gives you some extra vitmin C and tastes like strong, fizzy OJ. If you get the lemon-lime flavor, it tastes very good in Coke, Pepsi, or any cola. Extra fizzy, yes, but it just tastes like you added lemon to your soda. They do make a grape flavor for kids which is good in water alone, but in the long run, it's more expensive and contains less "medicine" than if you break the adult tablets in half.

My family swears by this stuff, except for my 10-yr-old DD who refuses to drink it. She's the only one who really gets sick these days.

I don't have any advice, but I hope he gets better soon! That stinks!

Our area stores are sold out of AIRBORNE, so I bought 6 boxes on www.drugstore.com. Free shipping... DH uses it daily, I just use it when I go out in crowds.

Robin,
Do you know if Doctors will hive out Tamiflu to a family who is traveling during flu season. Just as a precaution?

russellp,

It's not as bad as it sounds. He's not sleeping well and tossing and turning. This way he can wander, watch tv, and medicate without disturbing me. I still have to get up and go to work everyday, so one of us should be well-rested. Also, I take my turn on the couch if I'm sick. I'm really not the wench I sound like!! Who do you think has been catering to his every need (even if I wear a biological warfare suit to do it)!!!

LOL...I would rather get the flu than listen and take care of my sick hubby. He is unbelievable. I love my hubby but he carries on and on. I hope that you are all feeling well for your trip.

Yup - if somebody is sick at my house or at work I'm always washing my hands and anything that's been touched recently. The hand washing is really the best preventative. Once someone is sick though they just have to wait it out.

At our house, who ever is sick gets the bed :charac2:

Every time we're getting close to taking a trip I'm sure someone is going to get it - especially me- usually it's the kids though. We've never gone to WDW without a full pharmacy in tow.

Hope you have a great, healthy, time. We're going in Feb. I think I'll go clorox the phone!:magnify:

Taratink, I honestly don't know. A lot of times what most people think of and call the flu is actually a virus. Tamiflu doesn't work on viruses and you will have wasted your money. It's probably better to have a diagnosis before starting the drug. Call your physician and see how they feel about writing a script for it for you to have on hand.

I have got flu fears. We are traveling early Feb. and I have 2 preschoolers. Yikes! I hope we are all healthy for our long awaited trip.
