My 8 year old daughter just came in from talking with the girls next door and informed me in her most pitiful voice that they were gone all day back to school shopping at a real mall. She then proceeded into a little-diva tirade about how horrible it is that she has never. even. been. to a mall in her whole life.

The poor deprived dear... Thinking back, I realized she might just be right about that, at least as far as she can recall. I think the last time I took her to the mall she was a toddler in a stroller. :lmao: In my defense, it is an hour to the closest real mall, in a direction I never have occasion to need to go.

So now the only thing in the Whole Wide World that she wants for her birthday next month is to go to the mall.

How did an overgrown tomboy like me end up with a daughter who cares so much about the wonders of the mall? :confused3

That's what you get when you let your daughter hang out with the wrong crowd! T suppose you let her watch Toddlers & Tiarras on TLC too! ;)

I made the mistake of taking my daughter,9, to Fairlane mall for the first time in the spring. Now, she wants to go to the mall all the time.
She had been to Southland mall a few times since it is close to school.

With this "shopping" interest, I have decided you were either born with it or not. I couldn't care less about visiting the local mall, in fact, I make myself go sometimes just so I know what's out there.

Obviously, your daughter was born to shop.:cloud9:

never been to the mall??? I didn't even know that was possible in America today! :rotfl:

Hi neighbor!!! My 6 year old calls Fairlane the "new" mall. Everytime we go to Southland she says, can't we go to the new mall?:rotfl:

My DD11 is not deprived. She is having a mall party tomorrow. What is a mall party you ask (I know I did)? It is basically a coterie of pre-teens going from store to store and having lunch at the food court. Moms are allowed to be in the mall as long as they stay out of sight. At her last mall party DD did not actually buy anything (though she did bring money). The point seems to be something besides shopping.

My daughter is in love with Somerset. I think because they have Build A Bear.
One day we drove by Lakeside and I told her that I worked there in high school and college. She thought that was the greatest thing ever.

Somerset............ Great taste in malls. It's my DD favorite also but she is in her 30's:rotfl: Love the Somerset at Christmas....

omg. I can *totally* see my son (yes, my son) wanting something like that, assuming he gets the "right" friends. Heck, I can see my husband doing that!

I can't stand the mall anymore. But they just see it as a land of things they might own and it makes them happy.

My DD (14) has been to a few mall parties from ages 10-12. They were set up as scavenger hunts. The girls broke up into small groups of 3 and one parent. They had a list of things on the scavenger hunt sheet that they had to do. Each girl was given a certain amount of money -- around $5 each and a small purse from the dollar store. Some examples of things on the lists:

1) Go to the photo booth outside of Macy's and get a group photo.
2) Go to the kiddie rides and ride the train.
3) Each person in the group should buy a gumball from the machine next to the kiddie rides. Anyone who gets a pink gumball, gets to buy one more gumball.
4) Go to Claire's and buy one thing from the dollar choices (this was pre-arranged with the store).
5) Go to the Verizon booth and call your cell phone or home phone and leave a silly message.
6) Go to the Disney Store and try on a tiarra.
7) Take one ride on the Merry-go-Round

Then the last thing on the list was to meet at a certain place like the food court or Johnny Rockets for ice cream sundaes and gift opening. The girls always had a blast.

:lmao:

OP - during all of my daughter's early years, she lived in hand-me-downs from a cousin who is exactly one year older or in clothes she got as gifts. We
"went shopping" for the first time to buy tennis shoes in kindergarten and SHE FELL IN LOVE!!! :scared1: She was sooooo excited that she got to try on all those shoes and pick the ones she liked. It hadn't even occurred to me how "deprived" she was. :rotfl:
Her last birthday party (this month) was a shopping trip. It never ends.

I wish mine was deprived. We have no choice to go to the mall in search of clothes for her, she wears a 0 and they are not easy to find. THe mall is over an hour away for us, and the only thing we have closer is walmart, its and hour to go to target, or walgreens, and I do not shop at walmart.

The mall parties sound fun! But our mall rent a cops would flip out! I will have to find another mall around here by the time by DD is 12 to try that!

I thought the same thing.. than again I love in New Jersey and have about 4 malls within an hour of me

Twelve Oaks shopper reporting in... I live closer to Westland, but that mall is a joke.

I actually HATE going to the mall. From the parking to the walking from one side to the other, and then remembering that I need to go back because I forgot something. I rarely go to the mall.

I know, terrible isn't it? We live in this tiny map dot where all the kids wear Kmart fashions because it is the only clothing store in town, and still I can't shelter her from the temptations of Abercrombie. :lmao: :lmao: My 12yo thinks he's the coolest thing on legs because I order most of his clothes online from Old Navy. :rotfl:

Well, at least she won't be watching Toddlers & Tiaras... She thinks it is "creepy". :thumbsup2
